You have the power to shape things to make them better\nAbout the Role\nAt Alcoa, our environmental professionals play a critical role in supporting safe, sustainable and compliant mining operations across some of Western Australia's most significant mining assets. We currently have multiple opportunities available for experienced environmental professionals to join our WA Mining Environment team as Mine Environmental Specialist(s). Opportunities are available on both a permanent and fixed-term basis, working a Monday to Friday roster with the added benefit of a paid leisure day off every four weeks.\nBased on site at Willowdale Mine, you will work closely with operational teams to provide practical environmental leadership and specialist support across a broad range of environmental portfolios.\nIn addition to supporting one of the world's largest bauxite mining operations, you'll gain exposure to environmental activities across Alcoa's wider WA Mining operations, working alongside experienced technical specialists and industry leaders.\nIn this role, you'll coordinate and implement environmental management, monitoring and compliance programs that support safe and sustainable mining operations. You'll work closely with production, maintenance, rehabilitation, planning and contractor teams to ensure environmental obligations are met and risks are effectively managed.\nYou'll have the opportunity to work across a broad range of environmental disciplines including compliance, monitoring, water management, biodiversity, rehabilitation and operational environmental improvement initiatives, providing excellent exposure and development opportunities within WA Mining.\nYour responsibilities will include:\nCoordinating environmental monitoring, management and compliance programs.\nProviding practical environmental advice and support to operational teams.\nSupporting environmental incident response, investigations and corrective actions.\nPreparing environmental reports, compliance documentation and regulatory submissions.\nConducting field inspections, audits and assurance activities.\nCoordinating consultants, contractors and environmental projects.\nIdentifying opportunities to improve environmental performance and reduce risk.\nProviding guidance and mentoring to technicians and other team members when required.\nWhat’s on offer\nAttractive remuneration and variable bonus plan.\nEmployee growth and development opportunities.\nParental leave support for all caregivers.\n18 weeks Parental leave for primary caregivers.\nPaid employee volunteering hours within our community.\nOne additional paid Alcoa Flexi Day.\nGenerous leave entitlements including a leisure a day off every 4-week period.\nWhat you can bring to the role\nA degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Hydrology, related discipline, or significant experience in a related field.\nExperience working within mining, resources, heavy industry or another regulated operational environment.\nExperience in environmental monitoring, compliance, auditing, reporting and incident investigation.\nStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.\nThe ability to interpret environmental requirements and translate them into practical operational outcomes.\nA commitment to safety, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement.\nTo be successful, you'll combine strong technical environmental knowledge with the ability to build relationships and influence positive outcomes in an operational environment.\nAdditional information\nInterviews may progress prior to the closing date, although all applications will be considered.\nYou will only be contacted if you are shortlisted for an interview, this process can take up to four weeks from the closing date.\nBe part of shaping our organisation and join us in building a legacy of excellence for future generations.\nAbout the Location\nWillowdale is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia, and is located in the Darling Scarp east of Waroona and Cookernup. It supplies bauxite ore to the Wagerup Alumina Refinery via a direct overland conveying system and helps to produce almost half of Australia’s alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s aluminium.
