Shape Your World

At Alcoa, you will help deliver capital projects that directly influence operational reliability, plant performance, and the future of our industry. As a Regional Mechanical Project Engineering Specialist, you will use your engineering expertise, technical judgment, and collaborative approach to develop safe, effective, and sustainable mechanical solutions. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineering professional who wants to make a meaningful impact on industrial project development and execution.

About the Role

Reporting to the Regional Capital Projects Engineering Manager, you will support the development and execution of capital projects involving moderately complex mechanical scopes. You will help define technical solutions, validate engineering deliverables, and coordinate key stakeholders to ensure projects meet operational requirements, business objectives, and high standards of safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical requirements, project boundaries, and engineering deliverables throughout project development and execution phases;
  • Review and validate drawings, technical specifications, equipment lists, and engineering documentation to ensure quality and compliance;
  • Coordinate technical activities with engineering firms, suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support successful project execution;
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, option analyses, preliminary estimates, schedules, and technical recommendations;
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and progress monitoring activities;
  • Identify technical issues, recommend practical solutions, and escalate complex decisions when required.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification that provides a strong technical foundation;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, industrial projects, maintenance, or reliability;
  • Experience supporting capital project development processes, preferably within FEL or capital project environments;
  • Ability to interpret, review, and validate technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation to support sound engineering decisions;
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills demonstrated through work with operations, maintenance, health and safety, procurement, and external partners;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and the design of reliable, maintainable, and safe engineering solutions;
  • Functional bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written, is required due to the nature of the position and interactions with English/French-speaking partners, clients, or colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or aluminum production environments;
  • Experience in machine safety.

Interactions with

  • Project Managers (PMs) (all Project Managers);
  • Construction Project Managers (CPMs) (site leads) (6);
  • Internal project stakeholders (Reliability Engineers, Maintenance, SMEs, Health & Safety, Environment, etc.);
  • Engineering firms (Project Managers / Project Leads).
