This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. Principal I, Mechanical Design Engineering (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing complex mechanical components and systems. You will be expected to build effective and meaningful relationships with cross-functional teams and apply advanced engineering principles to solve problems.\nThis role is on-site in our Fort Worth, Texas location and a typical day would include:\nResponsible for supporting device engineering activities for ocular health related new products. He/she will support research & development in the area of novel ophthalmic devices (including novel packaging/ delivery devices)\nHands on participation in or support the product development activities such as design development, prototyping/testing, pilot builds, verification & validation testing, risk assessment and production tooling validation. \nApplies statistical principles to communicate meaningful conclusions relevant to customer needs\nApplies knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods for medical devices\nGenerate detailed fabrication drawings utilizing GD&T and tolerance analysis, appropriate product requirements and technical file documents and lead design reviews. \nApplies principles of engineering analysis to blend technical knowledge and manufacturing practices in providing solutions to complex engineering challenges.\nDevelops requirements, leads design reviews, performance of verification and validation, production transfer and related documentation.\nGenerates internal reports for communication with cross-functional members and management. \nSupport all aspects of documentation. Verification Plans and Reports; and design control through ECN, and Windchill.\nSupport existing device and ophthalmic packaging by addressing select product support requests and addressing questions on existing products.\nEnsures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work. \nWorking knowledge of Solid Works/ PTC Creo and related detailed drawings. \nWorking knowledge and experience with mechanical systems and assemblies.\nAbility to work under minimum oversight to identify and prioritize work activities as necessary to achieve project goals within set timelines. \nWork efficiently and productively with other team members and external partners.\nAdheres to Alcon's guidelines for appropriate workplace behaviors and attitudes \nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in medical devices is preferred. \nProficiency in CAD.
