Technical Project Manager

As a Technical Project Manager, you will lead the planning and delivery of complex software engineering and technology initiatives. The ideal candidate combines a strong software engineering and architecture background with technical project and delivery management experience.

In this role, you’ll collaborate across engineering, product, data, AI, infrastructure, and business teams to translate business objectives into executable technical plans and successful outcomes. You’ll bring the technical depth to facilitate technical decision-making, manage delivery risks, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Projects may span enterprise software, data and AI solutions, cloud infrastructure, APIs, search and knowledge systems, and enterprise integrations. You’ll collaborate with technology teams across multiple time zones, including colleagues in the United States and India.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multiple software engineering and technology projects from initiation through delivery, translating business and product objectives into clear project plans, roadmaps, milestones, schedules, resource needs, and measurable outcomes.

• Coordinate cross-functional technical teams while monitoring scope, progress, dependencies, risks, blockers, and critical-path activities.

• Facilitate timely decisions when business requirements, technical design, resources, schedules, or delivery constraints intersect.

• Maintain accurate project plans, decisions, and supporting documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Coordinate cross-functional resources across engineering, architecture, data, AI, infrastructure, security, quality assurance, DevOps, and product teams.

• Apply Agile practices to plan and facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and other delivery activities.

• Partner with product and engineering teams to translate functional and technical requirements into clearly defined, appropriately sized development work.

• Monitor sprint commitments, capacity, velocity, dependencies, blockers, and delivery trends to support realistic release plans.

• Lead project and release estimation across development, architecture, data, AI, infrastructure, integration, testing, security, and deployment activities.

• Document assumptions and refine estimates, resource plans, dependencies, sequencing, milestones, and critical paths as technical requirements evolve.

• Use prior software engineering and architecture experience to facilitate technical design activities and informed architectural decisions.

• Review proposed solutions for implementation challenges, dependencies, security, scalability, performance, availability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Partner with engineering leaders to define technical designs, resolve architectural issues, and remove technical blockers before and during implementation.

• Create and maintain architecture and technical design diagrams that clearly communicate system components and dependencies.

• Maintain project risk registers and proactively identify technical, operational, resource, schedule, security, vendor, integration, and dependency risks.

• Develop mitigation and contingency plans, escalate material concerns early, and coordinate alternative delivery approaches when constraints threaten project outcomes.

• Lead projects involving generative AI, AI agents, orchestration, machine learning, and enterprise AI applications across the software development lifecycle.

• Partner with AI engineering teams on solution architecture, prompt and context design, retrieval, model and tool selection, orchestration, evaluation, and tuning.

• Coordinate decisions involving data sources, structures, formats, search technologies, and knowledge systems that support AI-enabled applications.

• Identify and manage AI-specific risks, including response accuracy, retrieval quality, evaluation methods, data security, latency, cost, and model dependencies.

• Establish appropriate testing and evaluation approaches for AI-enabled functionality in partnership with engineering teams.

• Coordinate projects involving large-scale data systems, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, indexing, querying, analytics, and integration.

• Partner with data engineering teams to evaluate data technologies, pipelines, models, performance requirements, scalability, availability, and system dependencies.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and enterprise cloud architectures, including cloud application hosting, identity management, AI services, search, data platforms, relational or graph databases, and containerized environments.

• Coordinate cloud infrastructure and security requirements throughout technical design and project delivery.

• Partner with engineering and security teams to identify and address requirements, risks, dependencies, and remediation activities involving identity and access management, authentication, authorization, data protection, application security, and secure cloud architecture.

• Collaborate effectively with software engineering and technology teams across the United States and India, establishing communication practices that support work across time zones.

• Facilitate meetings that produce documented decisions, clear ownership, and actionable next steps.

• Provide concise project updates that communicate progress, accomplishments, upcoming activities, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.

• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, audience-appropriate communications, roadmaps, and delivery presentations.

• Maintain current project requirements, plans, decisions, and status information in the organization’s documentation environment.

• Clearly communicate priorities, dependencies, decisions, blockers, and schedule changes, and facilitate meetings that result in documented decisions and actionable next steps.

• Provide concise project updates that communicate progress, accomplishments, upcoming activities, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.

• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, audience-appropriate communications, roadmaps, and delivery presentations.

• Maintain current project requirements, plans, decisions, and status information in the organization’s documentation environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience delivering generative AI solutions, including AI agents and orchestration, prompt engineering, data and retrieval strategies, response evaluation, and tuning.

• Experience with enterprise data platforms and architectures, including relational, graph, search, semantic, or large-scale data environments.

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure technologies such as Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search, Semantic Kernel, Microsoft Fabric, AKS, App Service, Functions, or Microsoft Entra ID.

• Experience leading integrations between enterprise SaaS platforms, such as Salesforce, and custom software, APIs, data platforms, identity systems, or cloud services.

• Experience collaborating with product and design teams on UI/UX requirements, workflows, design specifications, and design-to-development handoffs.

• Experience delivering enterprise-scale software products in environments with multiple concurrent technology initiatives.

Required Technical Background

• Strong software development and architecture background, with experience across several technical areas such as programming languages and frameworks, APIs and distributed systems, relational and graph databases, cloud and application architecture, scalability and security, AI/ML and generative AI, and search or information retrieval technologies.

• Experience with or strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and enterprise cloud architectures, including application hosting, identity management, AI and search services, data platforms, databases, and containerized environments.

• Experience using software development, project management, collaboration, and documentation tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, or comparable platforms.

• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to tools that support engineering, project delivery, and technical documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline required.

• Significant professional experience progressing from software engineering and architecture into technical project, program, or delivery leadership.

• Demonstrated experience leading multiple complex software development projects from planning through delivery.

• Experience managing project plans, schedules, estimates, resources, risks, issues, dependencies, and contingency plans.

• Experience applying Agile software development methodologies in technical delivery environments.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for engineering, product, business, and executive audiences.

• Experience collaborating with geographically distributed technology teams.

• Ability to interpret and communicate software architecture, technical designs, and system diagrams.

• Ability to create clear project roadmaps, executive presentations, and status reports.

• High sense of urgency with the ability to meet deadlines and changing priorities.

• Receptiveness to performance feedback within a team environment is essential.

• Ability to work onsite in Houston, TX, five days per week.
