KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.\nThe Role\nThe Civil Engineering Coordinator manages and links civil engineering site activities, project designs, and cross-functional teams to build and maintain safe mine infrastructure, whilst ensuring that safety and quality rules are met in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Responsibilities\nDesign and Drawing Interpretation: Review and interpret civil engineering drawings, earthworks models, structural designs, and concrete specifications to ensure accurate implementation on site.\nGeotechnical and Material Quality Assurance: Supervise site preparation, soil compaction, and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) testing of concrete, steel, aggregates, and other construction materials.\nRFI and Design Change Management: Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate the resolution of discrepancies between engineering drawings, design specifications, and actual site conditions.\nInfrastructure and Structural Integrity: Oversee the construction, inspection, and maintenance of critical mine infrastructure, including haul roads, tailings storage facilities, water management ponds, and heavy machinery foundations.\nSurvey and Alignment Verification: Verify survey layouts, grading plans, elevations, and construction alignments to ensure compliance with approved engineering designs and mine layout requirements.\nProject Planning and Operational Management\nWork Planning and Organization: Plan, organize, and coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly work activities in line with project schedules, operational priorities, and approved mine plans.\nSchedule and Progress Monitoring: Track project timelines, update scheduling systems, monitor physical progress, identify potential delays, and implement recovery plans to maintain project schedules.\nProductivity and Cost Optimization: Monitor work performance, investigate alternative construction methods, minimize material wastage, and identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce costs.\nResource Planning: Ensure that labour, equipment, materials, and other resources are allocated effectively in accordance with approved work plans and budgets.\nProgress Reporting: Monitor construction activities and prepare progress reports, statistics, job cards, timesheets, and other required operational records.\nContractor Performance Monitoring: Monitor civil contractors' performance against agreed schedules, technical specifications, contractual obligations, and project milestones.\nFinance and Commercial Management\nBudget Management: Monitor project expenditure against approved engineering and construction budgets and identify opportunities for cost control.\nCost Variance Analysis: Identify, investigate, and report cost overruns, savings, and other budget variances, recommending appropriate corrective actions.\nQuantity Surveying and Verification: Verify quantities of materials placed, excavated, or moved on site and confirm completed work against approved designs, measurements, and contractual requirements.\nInvoice Verification: Review contractor and vendor invoices to verify the accuracy of quantities, rates, completed work, and compliance with contractual terms before recommending or approving payment within delegated authority.\nForecasting and Reporting: Support management in forecasting future capital and operational expenditure and preparing cost reports.\nContract Administration: Assist in preparing, reviewing, and administering contracts and agreements involving contractors, consultants, and vendors.\nProcurement Support: Support the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, and sourcing of construction materials, equipment, and services in coordination with the procurement team.\nCommercial Risk Management: Identify and report commercial risks associated with supply chain delays, cost escalation, contractor performance, and contractual disputes.\nStakeholder Communication: Coordinate commercial matters between internal engineering teams, procurement, contractors, consultants, and other relevant stakeholders.\n Cross-Functional Coordination and Stakeholder Management\nInterdepartmental Coordination: Serve as a key technical liaison between mine operations, engineering and design consultants, procurement, environmental teams, and other relevant departments.\nTechnical Issue Resolution: Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve design discrepancies, construction challenges, resource constraints, and other site-related issues.\nContractor and Consultant Coordination: Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of civil engineering projects.\nEnvironmental Coordination: Coordinate with environmental teams to ensure that civil construction activities comply with applicable environmental requirements, permits, and operational standards.\n Leadership and People Management\nTeam Supervision: Direct and coordinate the daily activities of junior engineers, technicians, and assigned contractors to ensure the effective execution of work plans.\nPerformance Management: Establish performance objectives, monitor individual and team performance, and provide regular feedback to support continuous improvement.\nCoaching and Mentoring: Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge transfer to team members to strengthen their engineering capabilities and professional development.\nTeam Development: Identify skills gaps, assess training needs, and implement development initiatives to improve technical competence and achieve departmental objectives.\nSuccession and Roster Planning: Develop trainees and backup personnel to ensure adequate technical support and continuity of operations during roster breaks and staff absences.\nConflict Resolution: Address workplace and contractor-related conflicts promptly and professionally to maintain effective working relationships and achieve project objectives.\nResource and Workforce Planning: Ensure that team structures and staffing levels align with approved labour plans, operational requirements, and departmental budgets.\nHR Systems and Processes: Ensure the effective use of BambooHR and compliance with applicable company HR policies and procedures.\nHealth, Safety, and Environmental Management\nSafe Work Environment: Ensure that construction and operational activities are conducted in a safe working environment, free from uncontrolled health and safety hazards.\nSafety Inspections: Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure the implementation of appropriate control measures.\nRisk Assessment: Conduct and review risk assessments for construction activities, ensuring that identified hazards are recorded, monitored, and managed through appropriate mitigation plans.\nSafety Training and Competency: Ensure that employees and contractors receive appropriate health and safety training and hold the required certifications for their assigned duties.\nIncident Management: Respond to safety incidents, support incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and take measures to prevent recurrence.\nSafety Leadership: Demonstrate behaviour consistent with Allied Gold's Safety Vision and Values and that appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.\nGround Support and Mine Plan Compliance: Ensure that activities under the role's responsibility comply with approved mine plans, ground support requirements, engineering specifications, and applicable technical standards.\nDocumentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely submission of required reports, records, job cards, timesheets, compliance with company standards.\n\nRequirements\nQualifications\nEducation\nBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution.\n Experience\nA minimum of 3–8 years of hands-on experience in civil construction or heavy infrastructure projects, preferably within the mining industry.\nPractical experience in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures and practices.\n Knowledge\nSound understanding of QA/QC procedures, quantity reconciliation processes, and reporting requirements.\nGood knowledge of mining industry standards, engineering practices, and construction procedures.\nUnderstanding of project planning, scheduling, and cost control principles.\nKnowledge of civil engineering drawings, construction specifications, and applicable health and safety requirements.\n Skills\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD, with working knowledge of MS Project or other project planning and scheduling tools.\nStrong organizational, planning, and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.\nAbility to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and quality when working
