From the first person hired by James Allison in 1915 to the thousands across the globe who work for Allison today, we’re driving progress everywhere because we employ top talent worldwide.\nThis is an exciting opportunity in Indianapolis, IN for a Tool Engineer.\nLearn more about this role and how you can begin driving your career forward!\nSummary:\nThe Tool Engineer will focus on execution and implementation of best practices in regard to tool management procedures, including managing all cutting tools for production plants, budgeting and forecasting tooling expenditures, and work for overall improvements to cost of machining. This role requires knowledge and practical experience with a multitude of tooling processes including turning, milling, grinding, broaching, hobbing, and honing.\nResponsibilities:\n· Support tooling issues in manufacturing plants as they relate to inventory, cost, procurement, forecasting and consumption.\n· Analyze process elements for improved tooling capability and reduce cost.\n· Be well-versed in the financial side of tooling. Be able to manage tool cost to a budget and document variances.\n· Provide technical support to plant operations as it relates to tooling.\n· Maintain regular contact with others outside the work group, including tooling manufacturers.\n· Continual improvements to manage tooling.\n· Understand and interface with Tool Room and Cutter Grind.\n· Provides a physical presence on the production floor.\nEducation Requirement:\nBachelor Degree or equivalent experience\nExperience:\nRequired:\n· Minimum 5-7 years’ experience required.\n· High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.\n· Direct manufacturing experience with an emphasis on metal cutting and/or gear forming.\n· Knowledge of tooling and manufacturing process and equipment.\n· Understanding of machine tools.\n· Good written and oral communication skills.\n· The ability to work effectively in a group setting.\n· The ability to work independently, and a willingness to seek counsel on difficult and complex issues.\n· The ability to multitask.\n· The ability to take on new task and roles.\n· Computer skills, including MS Office.\nPreferred:\n· Someone with tooling experience in a manufacturing environment.\n· Competency with MS Office, SAP, Maximo\nAllison Transmission is an equal opportunity employer.
