Alpha FMC is a London consultancy founded in 2003 that specialises in technology and operating model change for asset and wealth managers. Its teams handle platform selection, data migration and regulatory programmes for investment firms replacing core systems. The company has grown from a British boutique into an international practice with offices across Europe, North America and Asia.

Alpha Financial Markets Consulting (Alpha) is the leading consultancy to the asset and wealth management industry. Over the past 20 years, we have grown to become a team of 1,500 industry experts working across all of the major financial centres globally, partnering with 80 of the top 100 managers by AUM, and all of the top 20. We are proud that many of our team have established long and fulfilling careers with us, with many having stayed for well over a decade, playing central roles in building the business that we are today.

We hope that you will join us to shape the next chapter of our growth story.

The opportunity

We work with wealth managers and private banks on how they most effectively sell to and service their clients. In practice that means client journeys, the processes sitting behind them, the operating models that support them and the technology it all runs on. The work is strategic, large, and of high impact to our clients.

This is one of the fastest growing parts of our UK business, and we are hiring someone to help us build it further. That covers the proposition set, the team, and delivering the largest and most complex work we take on. You would be the senior person on the ground for a programme or a major workstream, with a team under you and a client sponsor to answer to - and someone working with practice leadership discussing where we should be heading.

Who you are

You want to be part of building something. You can see the gap between what the market needs and what anyone is currently offering it and want to do something about it. You have taken an idea from a conversation to something real before, and you like helping to create things.

You make problems your problems. You get into the detail until you understand what is really going on, which means you can propose the fix that no one else has managed to find. A recommendation isn't finished for you until you understand what sits underneath it, and when you put it in front of a client, you can defend every part of it.

You're always curious about what's coming next. You like to learn, and you keep your own informal radar on where wealth and private banking is heading, rather than recycling ideas that have already had their moment.

You're the person clients call first. Clients feel you understand them and you are on their side. You have built that kind of trust before, and you can point to real relationships as proof.

You enjoy seeing other people grow. You care about keeping a team motivated, and you take real pride in coaching and mentoring juniors towards becoming future leaders. The people who have worked for you have grown quickly, and they would tell you that you were a real part of why.

What you’ll do

  • Leading delivery of our large programmes or workstreams, and owning the plan, the governance, the risks and the outcome
  • Designing sales and service experiences, processes, and target operating models across the front office
  • Acting as the senior business-side lead on platform implementations such as CRM, advisor desktop, onboarding, and client lifecycle tooling, working closely with technology on design and sequencing
  • Running mixed teams of our people and client staff, which includes setting the quality standard, delegating properly, and developing the people below you
  • Handling the day-to-day relationship with client sponsors and senior stakeholders, including the difficult conversations
  • Acting as a sparring partner to the practice leadership on where our proposition should go, bringing your own ideas, arguing for them, and then building the ones that land
  • Coaching and mentoring the consultants around you, and taking a hand in how we hire and who we hire
  • Being restless about how the practice itself works, so what we should stop doing, what we should be better at and what we are missing

What you bring

  • Strong consulting experience is essential. We will also consider candidates whose experience has been genuinely consultative within industry, but the shape of that experience needs to be recognisable.
  • Experience in wealth management, private banking, or a closely related area of financial services.
  • A strong track record of leading large-scale change as a programme manager, lead project manager, or design lead, with clear ownership of delivery, governance, and outcomes.
  • Experience of large technology-enabled transformation programmes, including strategic and design work at the front end, not just execution delivery.
  • Strong people leadership experience, including managing teams and being accountable for the quality of their output.
  • The confidence and credibility to operate independently with senior client stakeholders and lead discussions in senior forums.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to get into the detail, understand root causes and build recommendations you can defend with confidence.
  • A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset, and a genuine interest in helping build a practice, not just delivering individual projects.

Nice to have (not deal-breakers)

  • Experience developing or refining propositions, segment strategies, or service models.
  • Experience supporting pitch processes, including defining team shapes and activity timelines.
