We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager with hands-on commercial general contracting experience to help deliver projects from preconstruction through final closeout. This position is ideal for someone ready to expand their project management skills, take ownership of key project activities, and progress into a full Project Manager role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of commercial construction projects, including renovations and tenant improvements, from planning and procurement through completion.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, Superintendents, and clients.
  • Prepare, distribute, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, meeting notes, and project correspondence.
  • Review plans, specifications, scopes, and contracts to identify conflicts, missing information, and coordination concerns.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining project schedules, tracking milestones, and following up on delays.
  • Monitor budgets, committed costs, invoices, purchasing activity, and change orders to help maintain financial control.
  • Coordinate material orders, delivery timelines, subcontractor sequencing, and jobsite logistics.
  • Attend project meetings, document decisions, assign follow-up items, and ensure outstanding issues are addressed.
  • Conduct jobsite visits to review progress, document field conditions, and coordinate solutions with Superintendents.
  • Support inspections, punch-list completion, warranty items, client turnover, and final project closeout.
  • Flag potential schedule delays, cost overruns, procurement challenges, and scope changes before they affect delivery.
  • Gradually assume greater responsibility for project scheduling, cost management, subcontractor coordination, and execution.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, project coordination, or project management.
  • Prior employment with a commercial general contractor is mandatory.
  • Experience with commercial building projects, renovations, or tenant improvements.
  • Working knowledge of construction documents, specifications, RFIs, submittals, contracts, schedules, and change orders.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, procurement, subcontractor management, and project controls.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with field teams, design professionals, trade partners, vendors, and clients.
  • Experience monitoring project costs, purchasing commitments, schedules, and change-order activity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction or project management software.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; relevant practical experience may substitute.

Important: Commercial construction experience is essential. Candidates whose experience is limited to residential construction will not be considered.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Health insurance.
  • Retirement plan options.
  • Paid time off.
  • Company-sponsored benefits and programs.
  • Professional development and ongoing training.
  • Opportunities to take ownership of increasingly complex project responsibilities.
  • Clear career progression toward a Project Manager position.
  • Long-term professional growth within an established commercial construction environment.
