This position combines technical design leadership with construction-phase support, from developing system concepts to resolving field issues and approving final engineering deliverables.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign HVAC and mechanical systems tailored to each building’s operational needs, performance requirements, and applicable codes.\nCalculate heating and cooling loads, evaluate ventilation requirements, select equipment, and assess energy performance.\nDevelop mechanical plans, technical specifications, equipment schedules, design calculations, and construction-ready documentation.\nServe as Engineer of Record when assigned, overseeing technical quality and engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle.\nIntegrate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.\nAssess building conditions, regulatory requirements, and project constraints to determine suitable engineering approaches.\nReview contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and proposed design changes for technical compliance.\nPerform site visits, field evaluations, and construction observations to verify design intent and identify installation issues.\nTroubleshoot design conflicts, code concerns, and field conditions, developing solutions that maintain system performance and compliance.\nEvaluate alternative designs to improve cost efficiency, energy use, reliability, and maintainability.\nSupport system commissioning, inspections, testing, and final project handover.\nSign and seal engineering documents where authorized by licensure and applicable regulations.\nMaintain accurate engineering records and ensure deliverables meet technical specifications and quality standards.\nWork directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to keep projects aligned.\nRequirements\n Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.\n5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.\nDirect HVAC and mechanical MEP design experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, municipal, or comparable facilities.\nStrong technical knowledge of load calculations, ventilation design, HVAC equipment selection, energy efficiency, and mechanical codes.\nProficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent mechanical design tools.\nExperience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.\nUnderstanding of building system integration and coordination across engineering disciplines.\nStrong technical judgment, analytical skills, troubleshooting ability, and communication.\nExperience collaborating with building owners, architects, contractors, and engineering teams.\nBackground in healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other complex facilities is preferred.\nExtensive direct design involvement is essential.
