This role requires direct experience with a commercial general contractor and the ability to take full ownership of project delivery, from preconstruction planning and subcontractor procurement through construction, client turnover, and closeout.\nKey Responsibilities\nTake ownership of commercial construction projects from initial planning through final completion, ensuring delivery meets contractual, financial, schedule, and quality requirements.\nBuild and manage project schedules, monitor critical milestones, and develop solutions to keep work on track.\nOversee subcontractor agreements, scopes of work, procurement activities, change orders, and contractual deliverables.\nReview construction plans, specifications, contracts, RFIs, submittals, and other project records to resolve discrepancies and maintain coordination.\nServe as the central point of coordination for clients, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, Superintendents, and field personnel.\nManage project budgets, purchase orders, committed costs, expenses, and profitability; address variances before they affect project performance.\nLead project meetings, communicate decisions, assign follow-up actions, and ensure outstanding issues are resolved promptly.\nPartner with field leadership to monitor construction progress, workmanship, safety practices, and adherence to project schedules.\nAnticipate risks involving cost, scheduling, scope, and materials, then implement corrective measures to minimize disruption.\nCoordinate material orders, deliveries, inspections, punch-list completion, warranty requirements, and owner handover.\nProvide clear, consistent project updates to clients and company leadership, escalating critical issues and recommending solutions.\nRequirements\n5+ years of commercial construction project management experience with a general contractor is required.\nDemonstrated experience managing commercial renovations, tenant improvements, office buildings, institutional facilities, industrial projects, or comparable work.\nAbility to independently direct projects through preconstruction, active construction, and final closeout.\nStrong command of construction documents, contracts, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, RFIs, submittals, and change-order management.\nProven ability to manage subcontractor performance and coordinate clients, design professionals, vendors, and field teams.\nKnowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, site logistics, and project execution.\nProficiency with construction management and scheduling software, along with Microsoft Office.\nStrong leadership, negotiation, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.\nBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.\nWillingness to work on-site and travel to project locations throughout Central Virginia.\nImportant: Direct commercial general contracting experience is mandatory.
