The Database Administrator collaborates with engineering, system administration, application support, cybersecurity, and information-management teams to ensure database environments remain secure, reliable, and operationally effective.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDatabase Administration and Maintenance\nAdminister and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database management systems and related applications.\nMonitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance.\nPerform database performance analysis and tuning.\nConduct routine database maintenance, backups, restoration, recovery, and archiving activities.\nCreate, update, maintain, and archive databases as required.\nPerform database system-management and administrative functions.\nSupport database updates, patches, and upgrades, including testing, validation, implementation, and post-deployment monitoring.\nMaintain database integrity, reliability, availability, and security.\nMonitor database storage, utilization, and capacity requirements.\nIdentify and resolve database performance, connectivity, access, and configuration issues.\nSecurity and Access Management\nAdminister database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.\nManage portal-site user accounts and permissions as required.\nReview database access to ensure compliance with organizational security requirements.\nSupport security configuration, vulnerability remediation, and database hardening activities.\nCoordinate with cybersecurity and system-administration teams to address database security risks and findings.\nTechnical and Operational Support\nRespond to ad hoc trouble tickets that do not require a formal lifecycle development approach.\nTroubleshoot database systems, portal sites, user accounts, database connections, and access permissions.\nMake administrative or configuration modifications to existing portal sites as requested.\nProvide database administration support for current, legacy, and future systems.\nDiagnose and resolve database-related incidents and service disruptions.\nCoordinate with application, engineering, and infrastructure teams to identify root causes and restore services.\nTrack issues through resolution and document corrective actions.\nAutomation and Process Improvement\nDevelop repeatable processes for automating routine database administration activities.\nAutomate database maintenance, monitoring, backups, archiving, reporting, and other recurring administrative functions.\nIdentify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and strengthen operational reliability.\nCoordinate database automation efforts with engineering, database administration, and system-administration teams.\nDocument automated processes and establish procedures for their ongoing maintenance and support.\nDocumentation and Data Cataloging\nMaintain a complete and accurate library of database, system, configuration, and operational documentation.\nDocument database architectures, configurations, dependencies, access controls, maintenance procedures, backup processes, and recovery procedures.\nUpdate documentation following database, system, configuration, or process changes.\nWork with the Information Owner to compile and maintain a complete and accurate data catalog in support of the Department of the Navy data-cataloging initiative.\nAssist with identifying, classifying, documenting, and validating data assets and associated metadata.\nSupport audits, assessments, and documentation reviews as required.\nRequired Qualifications:\nMinimum of 5 years of experience administering Oracle and Microsoft SQL server databases\nDemonstrated experience with database maintenance, performance tuning, backup, restoration, recovery, and archiving.\nExperience administering database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.\nExperience troubleshooting production database environments and resolving technical-support tickets.\nExperience supporting database updates, patches, upgrades, migrations, and testing activities.\nExperience with database monitoring, capacity planning, and system-performance analysis.\nExperience creating scripts or automated processes for database-administration activities.\nStrong technical-documentation skills.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with engineering, system administration, application support, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders.\nCertification Requirements:\nCandidates must hold one or more relevant database certifications, such as:\nOracle Certified Professional\nMicrosoft Certified Solutions Expert\nA current equivalent Oracle or Microsoft database-administration certification\nPreferred Qualifications :\nExperience supporting Department of Defense or Department of the Navy systems.\nExperience working in regulated, secure, or mission-critical environments.\nKnowledge of federal cybersecurity, information-assurance, data-governance, and system-documentation requirements.\nExperience supporting web portals, portal permissions, and user-account administration.\nExperience with database scripting, job scheduling, monitoring, and automation tools.\nFamiliarity with data cataloging, metadata management, and data-governance initiatives.\nExperience supporting both legacy and modern database environments.\nSalary and Benefit Information:\nThe likely salary range for this position is $104,000- $118,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
