Working closely with operations leadership and North America HSE Management, the role ensures HSE programs, standards, and procedures are consistently applied, regulatory requirements are met, and risks are effectively managed.\nThe HSE Manager acts as a field-based partner to operational leaders, providing guidance, coaching, audits, investigations, and practical support to address regional HSE challenges while promoting a strong safety culture.\nSpecific Responsibilities:\nHSE Program Implementation\nImplement Global and North American HSE programs, standards, procedures, and initiatives throughout the region.\nAdapt and execute approved HSE programs to address regional operational requirements and risks.\nSupport site leaders in applying HSE requirements consistently across all locations.\nEnsure regional compliance with corporate HSE expectations and performance standards.\nLead regional HSE improvement initiatives and risk reduction projects that enhance process effectiveness, operational controls, and overall HSE performance.\nCoordinate and facilitate HSE Management Reviews to evaluate system effectiveness, compliance performance, and continuous improvement opportunities.\nOperational Support\nServe as the primary HSE resource for regional operations leadership.\nWork directly with managers and supervisors to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.\nSupport sites during operational changes, new equipment installations, facility expansions, and process modifications.\nProvide practical solutions to regional HSE challenges while maintaining compliance requirements.\nCompliance & Auditing\nConduct site inspections, audits, and workplace assessments.\nMonitor compliance with applicable occupational health, safety, environmental, and transportation regulations.\nEnsure corrective actions are completed and documented.\nSupport regulatory inspections and agency interactions as required.\nMonitor compliance trends and proactively identify areas requiring corrective or preventive actions.\nIncident Management\nLead or support investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental occurrences.\nConduct root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented.\nMonitor incident trends and recommend opportunities for risk reduction.\nSupport injury management and return-to-work processes as required.\nRisk Management\nFacilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities.\nLead initiatives focused on reducing operational risk through engineering, administrative, and behavioral controls.\nVerify effectiveness of controls for high-risk activities.\nSupport emergency preparedness and response planning.\nMonitor regional risk indicators and escalate significant concerns to leadership.\nTraining & Coaching\nDeliver HSE training and awareness initiatives.\nCoach managers and supervisors on HSE responsibilities and expectations.\nSupport onboarding and orientation programs related to safety and environmental compliance.\nPromote employee engagement in safety initiatives and reporting processes.\nReporting & Performance Monitoring\nTrack and report regional HSE performance metrics.\nMaintain records related to audits, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.\nPrepare monthly and quarterly HSE summaries for regional leadership.\nIdentify trends and communicate opportunities for improvement.\nEnvironmental & Sustainability Support\nSupport implementation of environmental compliance requirements.\nMonitor waste management, permit obligations, and environmental controls.\nAssist sites in achieving corporate sustainability objectives.\nInvestigate environmental incidents and support corrective actions.\nOther\nUse correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.\nObserve established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.\nOther duties as assigned.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities\nStrong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in the assigned region.\nUnderstanding of environmental compliance requirements.\nExcellent coaching and relationship-building skills.\nStrong investigation and root cause analysis abilities.\nAbility to influence without direct authority.\nStrong organizational and problem-solving skills.\nWell-developed written and verbal communication skills.\nRequired Qualifications\n3+ years of progressive experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally within an industrial, laboratory, or field operations environment.\n1+ years of management experience strongly preferred.\nDiploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.\nStrong working knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., JHA/JSA, hazard identification, risk ranking and control hierarchies).\nExperience working across multi-site operations is an asset.\nAbility to travel to ALS sites across the assigned region up to 50% of the time, including air and ground travel.\nWorking
