The role ensures laboratory activities are completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with approved methods, quality standards, and client requirements.\nKey Responsibilities\nReceive, identify, label, log, and store laboratory samples in accordance with established procedures.\n\nPrepare samples, lubricants, fluids, and test specimens for tribological and material performance testing.\n\nAssist Laboratory Technicians and Scientists in conducting routine wear, friction, lubrication, and material testing activities.\n\nOperate laboratory equipment safely and accurately in accordance with approved methods and training requirements.\n\nMaintain laboratory equipment, testing apparatus and work area ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and compliance with quality standards.\n\nAccurately measure, record, and maintain laboratory data and documentation ensuring full traceability of samples and test results.\n\nMonitor laboratory consumables and support stock control, reporting shortages and assisting with reagent and test material preparation.\n\nComply with all safety, environmental, and quality management requirements while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.\n\nSkills and Experience\nEssential\nExperience in a laboratory, technical, manufacturing, engineering, or testing environment.\n\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate results and records.\n\nAbility to follow written procedures, test methods, and work instructions consistently.\n\nBasic computer proficiency, including data entry and Microsoft Office applications.\n\nStrong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment.\n\nDemonstrated commitment to safe workplace health and safety,\nincluding the safe handling of laboratory samples, chemicals, oils, and equipment.\n\nDesirable\nCertificate, diploma, or relevant study in science, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.\n\nExperience with lubricants, oils, metals, polymers, coatings, or materials testing.\n\nFamiliarity with laboratory quality systems, such as ISO/IEC 17025.\n\nExperience operating balances, ovens, microscopes, measuring equipment, or mechanical test apparatus.\n\nUnderstanding of basic tribology concepts, including friction, wear, lubrication, and surface interaction.\n\nWorking at ALS\nThe ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.\nOur values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.\nAt ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
