The priority for this position will be to receive and organize samples, verify client information and enter the pertinent information into the laboratory data systems and to fill and ship bottle orders to clients.\nSpecific Responsibilities:\nFollow all health, safety and environment regulations;\nReceive work orders as they arrive in the laboratory with little or no supervision;\nOpen and layout samples and paperwork to confirm all required samples have been received with little or no supervision;\nEnter all pertinent information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);\nDetermine when client sample processing instructions are missing, incomplete or ambiguous;\nMaintain close liaison with Laboratory Manager and other lab staff to ensure the smooth delivery of our services to clients;\nShipping and receiving duties as required, including processing of supplies receiving;\nComplete bottle orders, including tracking of bottle orders to ensure timely and accurate completion;\nSample pickup driver as required on a fill-in basis\nEnsure adherence to all procedures and policies (safety, quality, employment and technical);\nTransport samples into lab, some heavy lifting required (up to 23kg);\nIdentify and resolve internal and external problems when they arise;\nEarly morning and weekend and evening shifts may be required as needed;\nFollow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;\nUse correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;\nObserve established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;\nOther duties as assigned.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:\nIntermediate English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);\nBasic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with basic computer skills;\nAccurate and efficient data entry skills;\nWell organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;\nProcess oriented, with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations;\nWork independently and as part of a team;\nStrong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;\nCommitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.\nRequired Qualifications:\nCompletion of high school diploma or equivalent;\nValid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving history (Asset);\nSome experience working in a fast-paced, production, and/or preparation environment (asset);\nKnowledge from high school science courses and/or basic laboratory safety (asset);\nExperience working with chemicals or in a laboratory setting (ex. school) (asset).\nPhysical Demands:\nAbility to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;\nManual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;\nAbility to stand for up to a full shift;\nAbility to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;\nYou may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;\nPlease note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.\nWorking at ALS\nThe ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.\nOur values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.\nAt ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
