Microbiologist - Trowbridge

We are looking for a conscientious and motivatedMicrobiologistto join our laboratory team inTrowbridge. In this role, you will carry out a range of microbiological testing, including plate counting, identification and confirmation, while following documented methods and maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, quality and safety. You will be responsible for completing testing within agreed deadlines, accurately recording and approving results, supporting laboratory housekeeping and stock control, and contributing to the training and development of colleagues.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-focused team player with sound practical and theoretical knowledge of microbiology to develop their career in a quality-driven laboratory environment.

About the Role

Days Per Week: First three months: Monday to Friday, 10am - 6:30pm; permanent shift thereafter: Sunday to Thursday, 12:30pm - 9:00pm.

Contract: Full Time and Permanent

The Day to Day

  • Carry out microbiological testing including plate counting, identification and confirmation, following documented methods without deviation.

  • Ensure all tests are completed within agreed timeframes, keeping the management team informed of any delays or issues.

  • Enter and approve test results accurately and promptly, meeting client and method deadlines.

  • Maintain a clean, organised laboratory environment and ensure correct waste disposal procedures are followed.

  • Monitor and report on laboratory stock levels, requesting replenishment as needed.

  • Deliver training on microbiological procedures and theoretical principles in line with standard methodologies.

  • Adhere strictly to all health & safety and quality management procedures, including use of PPE and incident reporting.

  • Promote a positive safety culture and assist in resolving any unsafe practices.

The Essentials

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs (grades 9-4 or A*-C) or equivalent, including Science, English and Mathematics.

  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology, with experience across a range of methods and procedures.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Committed to producing high-quality data in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.

  • A proactive team player with a strong sense of responsibility for safety, accuracy and cleanliness in the lab environment.
