This role will assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the section while ensuring production, quality and safety requirements are consistently met.\nThis opportunity would suit an existing employee looking to take the next step in their career, or a laboratory professional seeking to develop their people-leadership and supervisory skills. The successful candidate will report to the Organic Coordinator and work collaboratively with the broader Organics team.\nIn addition to leadership responsibilities, the successful candidate will be required to fill production gaps and provide method coverage where necessary.\nThe Day to Day\nThe successful applicant will undertake a range of duties, including:\nSupervise and lead the Organic Prep team, including roster management and supporting one-on-one and performance reviews in collaboration with the Organic Coordinator.\nManage staffing levels and daily workflow to optimise productivity, meet due dates, holding times (HT) and turnaround time (TAT) requirements.\nDevelop and implement cross-training plans to build team capability, provide method coverage and minimise production gaps.\nOversee quality actions within the Organic Prep section as directed by the Quality Chemist, ensuring adherence to QWI requirements, quality procedures and training compliance.\nTroubleshoot and resolve operational issues to maintain production targets, quality standards and efficient workflow.\nProvide professional leadership and foster a positive, collaborative work environment that supports staff development and high performance.\nReview performance and set goals for the section to be presented in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs)\nWork with Team Leaders and the Organic Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate staff training without compromising production requirements.\nMonitor absenteeism and adjust resources where required to manage workflow, holding times and TAT compliance.\nMaintain adequate consumable supplies, minimise downtime and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the section.\nEnsure compliance with HSE, QA/QC documentation and workplace-record requirements, including participation in safety audits and initiatives.\nThe Essentials\nThe successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities:\nDemonstrated management or team-supervision experience.\nThe ability to maintain positive working relationships, with an adaptable and resilient approach to production management.\nAn innovative and solution-focused mindset, with strong problem-solving skills.\nTwo or more years of laboratory experience, preferably within environmental science or environmental testing.\nA proven track record of maintaining HSE and quality compliance in the workplace.\nA degree or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, or a related discipline, is preferred.\nExperience working in a production-focused environment is preferred, but not essential.\nWorking at ALS\nThe ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.\nOur values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.\nAt ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
