We’re excited to share that an opportunity exists for a Substation Technologist/Substation Electrician with the Transmission Field Operations team located in our Rocky View County field office.\nJob Description:\nReporting to the Manager, Substations South, this position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the operation and maintenance of Altalink’s transmission substations in Alberta. The successful candidate will be required to reside in the Calgary area.\nResponsibilities:\nOperate, inspect and maintain substation equipment (4160V- 500KV) associated with the AltaLink transmission system. \nProvide maintenance planning, schedulers and Altalink Control Center staff with information regarding equipment status and recommend improvements or replacements. \nTrouble response for stations facilities in the area. \nAssist and support other disciplines as required. \nAssist the Substations team on Capital upgrade and replacement work. \nAssist the Substation team with new technologies that include SVC and PST.\nAs required, develop and implement a plan for substation work including review and understanding of work packages and related work practices, procedures, policies/standards and regulations, ensuring that all practices meet or exceed existing requirements.\nEnsure development and documentation of Safe Work Plans as required.\nCoordinate and provide emergency responses to system emergencies as required.\nMentoring junior employees/apprentices as required.\nAll candidates must demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.\nRequirements\nQualifications:\nGraduation from a related and recognized Technologist Diploma program preferably Electrical Technology. \nPower System Electrician Journeyman Certificate would be an asset. \nProven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities. \nWilling to develop skills and a career in the Substation Technologist/Power System Electrician discipline. \nDemonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace. \nKnowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards required.\nStrong mechanical as well as electrical aptitude. \nDemonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines. \nBe competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets. \nAbility to work as part of a team and independently. \nEffective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.\nMust have a valid Class 5 driver’s license. Class 1 or 3 licenses would be an asset.\nPrevious experience operating equipment (telehandler, crane, skid steer, elevated work platforms, etc.) would be an asset.\nMust have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and comfortable working at heights. \nThis is a physically demanding position.
