We’re excited to share that we are hiring a Summer Student to join our Operational Engineering team.\nNOTE: The start date is May 2027, and the length of the term is 4 months.\nJob Description:\nReporting to the Manager, Operational Engineering, the successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for supporting issues on AltaLink’s transmission facilities in Alberta, which range in voltage class from 69kV to 500kV. The successful candidate will be providing support in one or more of the technical sub-groups such as transmission lines, civil, substations, operational technology, SCADA, protection and control (P&C), and compliance.\nResponsibilities:\nLiaise with internal departments and external stakeholders, including developers, municipalities, consultants, utilities, and landowners, to address inquiries and concerns related to activities near AltaLink facilities.\nSupport the review and processing of third-party proximity, crossing, encroachment, and development requests involving AltaLink transmission lines, substations, and associated infrastructure.\nInterpret and communicate AltaLink’s standards, requirements, and safe work practices to third parties proposing activities near AltaLink assets.\nAssist in the review of engineering drawings, site plans, crossing applications, and development proposals to identify potential impacts to AltaLink facilities and ensure compliance with company standards.\nSupport technical assessments related to transmission line clearances, encroachments, ground disturbances, crossings, and land-use developments within AltaLink rights-of-way.\nCoordinate with internal engineering, operations, project, and land teams to gather technical information and facilitate timely responses to stakeholder inquiries.\nAssist in developing process improvements, guidelines, and technical documentation to enhance the efficiency and consistency of third-party reviews.\nSupport engineering studies, data analysis, and reporting related to transmission asset management and Operational Engineering initiatives, as required.\nDemonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability\nRequirements\nAn Electrical Engineering student (ideally specializing in power systems) who has completed two or more years of study at a recognized University.\nKnowledge of electrical transmission facilities (substations, lines, P&C and SCADA) would be an asset.\nDemonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.\nExperience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.\nDedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills. \nExcellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously and meet strict deadlines. \nEffective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.\nProven track record of good attendance and job performance. \nNotes:\nCandidates chosen for interviews will be asked to provide their unofficial transcripts.\nInternal candidates can submit their resume internally via https://referrals.workable.com/altalink/jobs/\nExternal candidates can submit their application via Workable externally at AltaLink - Current Openings (workable.com).\nAltaLink employees should be aware that we may contact your manager during the selection process.
