We’re excited to share that we are hiring a Summer Student to join our Field Operations North Team.\nNOTE: The start date is May 2027, and the length of the term is 4 months.\nJob Description:\nAn opportunity exists for a Summer Student - Protection & Control Technologist in the Field Operations team based at our Acheson office. Reporting to the Manager, P&C Telecom North, this position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the AltaLink Transmission system with a focus on the Protection & Control equipment. The successful candidate will be required to follow all AltaLink work methods, policies and procedures and will be expected to reside in the greater Edmonton area.\nResponsibilities:\nTroubleshoot, inspect, and maintain Protection & Control devices associated with AltaLink's transmission system.\nInteract constructively with Field Operations, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, System Operations, and other departments within AltaLink.\nDevelop Field Level Hazard Assessments/ Safe Work Plans, perform P&C work safely and ensure a high level of reliability to our customers.\nTrouble response for Protection & Control equipment in the area. \nAssist and support other disciplines as required. \nAll candidates must demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.\nRequirements\nQualifications:\nFull-time student enrolled in a related and recognized two year Electrical, Wireless or Electronics Engineering Technology program.\nDemonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.\nKnowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards required.\nBe competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.\nDemonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build rapport.\nDemonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines. \nStrong time management and organizational skills.\nEffective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers. \nAbility to work independently and part of a team.\nHave a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
