We’re excited to share that we are hiring a Telecom Lifecycle Engineer.\nJob Description:\nAn opportunity currently exists for a Telecom Lifecycle Engineer within AltaLink’s Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering (LME) Team. The Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering team’s goal is to direct the optimization and balance of cost, risk and performance for AltaLink’s power system assets and systems throughout their lifecycle. This is done by assessing and trending risk, capital/operating expenditures and system performance; by applying lifecycle models and methodologies; and by creating a long-term view of maintenance activities and corresponding investment requirements. By understanding the cost, risk and performance implications of asset management decisions, AltaLink ensures that the needs of the power system are balanced with the needs of end users.\nThe Telecom Lifecycle Engineer will be a key member of the Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering team responsible for a wide range of maintenance work. The successful candidate will work with internal and external staff to perform analysis and performance trending of Telecom devices and present maintenance solutions including updated maintenance practices to immediate replacement of impacted equipment. This position will appeal to self-driven individuals who are keen to understand equipment failure and work with like-minded individuals to solve performance issues. This position will report to the Manager, Lifecyle Maintenance Engineering.\nResponsibilities:\nConduct life cycle assessments for telecom equipment, including supporting the development of purchasing specifications, improving equipment maintenance standards, developing troubleshooting procedures, completing life extension alternative assessments, creating sparing plans and optimizing replacement selection criteria. \nLead GTA business case development and answer regulatory requests. \nApply the Condition Monitoring and Assessment (CMA) process for asset condition trending and analysis focusing on telecom equipment.\nAssist in the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for telecom equipment to enhance the longevity and reliability while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of offline maintenance.\nMonitor in-service devices for widespread issues related to hardware and firmware. \nInvestigate and resolve systemic telecom equipment defects and deficiencies.\nPerform end of life expectancy assessments and equipment condition assessments.\nProvide innovative solutions for system reliability, safety and efficiency improvements.\nPerform telecom equipment sparing assessments.\nWork closely with Field Technologists in troubleshooting and resolving issues during maintenance/testing in consultation with other internal partners. \nParticipate in the development, modification or interpretation of standards and practices associated with maintenance. \nMaintain effective working relationships with suppliers, partners and internal clients that result in growing understanding, good decisions, and effective cooperation.\nDemonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.\nRequirements\nQualifications:\nMust have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.\nEngineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PEng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or qualifies for registration with APEGA. \nFormal training in Telecom would be an asset.\nProven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.\nKnowledge of modern Telecom devices in utility applications. \nFamiliarity with Telecom vendor software would be an asset. \nKnowledge and understanding of electric transmission system operation, maintenance, performance, and power equipment.\nKnowledge of applicable standards such as CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.\nProven track record of producing innovative, productivity enhancing and forward thinking solutions.
