Veterinary Technicians perform various duties to facilitate and support the work and research done at the facility by completing a variety of animal health activities in the areas of medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. As a team, the Veterinary Services staff, is responsible for the treatment of all on-site ill and injured animals, and the fulfillment of the preventative medicine program as determined by the Attending Veterinarian.\nWhat You'll Do Here\nFollow all Altasciences Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and is compliant with GLP, ALCOA+, USDA, and AAALAC.\nParticipate in animal health duties, including examination/treatment of animals under the guidance of veterinarians and maintain animal health records.\nPerforms routine quality control on all paperwork and performs computer entry and/or data retrieval as appropriate.\nPerforms routine diagnostic/screening tests and veterinary procedures (such as body weights, body condition score (BCS), fecal examination, blood collection, dose administration, sample processing, and tissue collection.)\nProvides surgical support by preparing patients, medications, and equipment for surgery, and monitoring animals while under anesthesia. May assist in surgical procedures and/ or advanced diagnostic/treatment procedures.\nPerform general housekeeping duties such as surgical sanitation, study set-up, study clean-up, equipment maintenance and validation, and organization of vet spaces.\nPerforms dose calculations for medications to be given based on initial orders from a veterinarian or as per SOP or Protocol and may be responsible for ordering substances from the pharmacy for planned procedures.\nProficient in working with core animal species, ensuring the correct handling, restraint, and manipulation of sedated and non-sedated animals for essential procedures.\nContributes to data collection, aiming to achieve high data quality.\nAssists Research Associates, Post-Life, and/or Labs and participates in weekend and evening rotations, as needed.\nAssist with inventory and ordering responsibilities for supplies used by the department.\nWhat You'll Need to Succeed\nAssociates or Bachelor’s degree with experience in clinical or research setting; Applicable state licensing for Veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT); or high school diploma/GED.\nMinimum of 1 year of relevant experience preferred. \nEquivalent combination of experience may substitute for education.\n6-12 months basic animal handling and /or basic medical/veterinary experience.\n It is desirable to be working toward the AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification level or equivalent. \nVeterinary Technician License is preferred.\nRequires general reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.\nThe ability to quickly understand and act on complex instructions delivered either verbally or in writing, and the ability to communicate either verbally or in writing with a wide variety of individuals in a professional, respectful, and clear manner\nOther Requirements:\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nWell developed interpersonal skills are required.\nPersonal/professional integrity and proven discretion in handling confidential information.\nAbility to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.\nCapable of managing multiple conflicting priorities.\nMust be self-directed, motivated, and have a willingness to take the initiative to identify and anticipate client needs and make recommendations for implementation.\nRelevant industry experience a plus.\nWhat We Offer\nThe hourly range estimated for this position is $22 - $35/hour.
