At ALTEN, we empower talented engineers to innovate, solve complex challenges, and deliver impactful solutions that build tomorrow’s world-today.\nJoin us and start building tomorrow’s world today!\n We are seeking a Project Engineer to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of a complex Layout Engineering scope within a multidisciplinary engineering programme.\nThis role is specifically suited to candidates with a strong background in plant layout, equipment layout, CAD integration, spatial coordination, design integration, or infrastructure layout engineering, combined with proven project engineering or project management experience.\nYou will act as the interface between Layout Engineering, Project Controls, and Programme Management, ensuring design activities are properly scoped, planned, resourced, coordinated, and delivered. This is not a planner role; instead, you will provide the technical insight and understanding needed to build credible schedules, define work breakdown structures, manage dependencies, and support delivery forecasting.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLead the coordination and delivery of Layout Engineering activities across complex engineering programmes.\nAct as the focal point between Layout Engineers, Project Managers, Planners, and external stakeholders.\nDevelop and maintain engineering work breakdown structures for layout scope.\nDefine technical deliverables, key interfaces, dependencies, and engineering milestones.\nSupport planners by providing accurate sequencing, assumptions, resource requirements, and delivery logic.\nCoordinate design integration activities across multiple engineering disciplines.\nManage interfaces between layout design, systems, structures, civil, mechanical, electrical, and supplier-delivered packages.\nMonitor engineering progress and support delivery against schedule, cost, quality, and scope objectives.\nIdentify and manage technical risks associated with design integration and layout development.\nSupport governance reviews, project reporting, forecasting, and performance management.\nCoordinate engineering suppliers and subcontractors delivering layout-related scope.\n Required Skills:\nLayout Engineering\nStrong experience in plant layout engineering, facility layout, equipment arrangement, 3D design integration, or multi-discipline design coordination.\nExperience managing layout engineering activities through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.\nUnderstanding of design integration challenges within large engineering projects.\nExperience coordinating interfaces between multiple engineering disciplines.\nAbility to understand and challenge design assumptions, spatial constraints, and layout changes.\nProject Engineering & Delivery\n5-10 years' experience in Project Engineering, Engineering Management, Project Coordination, or Technical Programme Delivery.\nExperience delivering engineering projects within large-scale infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, defence, aerospace, transportation, or regulated environments.\nExperience developing execution plans and engineering delivery strategies.\nStrong understanding of work package management and engineering governance.\nExperience supporting project controls and schedule development.\nPlanning & Coordination\nExperience defining Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).\nKnowledge of engineering planning and scheduling principles.\nExperience managing interdependencies across multiple technical teams.\nResource forecasting and workload management experience.\nAbility to provide planners with credible engineering delivery assumptions and logic.\nThe ideal candidate will have knowledge of:\nEngineering design lifecycles.\nSystems engineering principles.\nDesign integration and interface management.\nDesign review processes.\nChange control and configuration management.\nEngineering assurance and governance.\nRisk and opportunity management.\nAgile engineering delivery methodologies.\nBIM and engineering information management practices.\nRequired Qualifications:\nA Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.\nDesirable Skills:\nChartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.\nAPM PMQ, PRINCE2, PMP, or similar project qualification.\nKnowledge of ISO 15288 Systems Engineering principles.\nExperience working within highly regulated industries.\n Why join us?\nWe bring together entrepreneurial, tech-driven people to deliver innovative solutions for leading companies.\nAt ALTEN, you’ll work on exciting projects, supported by ongoing learning, mentoring, and clear career development tailored to your goals.\nJoin a passionate team and help build tomorrow, today.\nIn short you get:\nA personalised career path and a rewarding management style \nA huge diversity of engineering projects and industries\nPrivate Medical Insurance\nCycle & Tech Scheme \nEmployee assistance programme\nLife insurance & Pension Scheme\nSocial atmosphere, regular gatherings & team buildings\nFlexible way of working (role dependent)\nWe are proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant & actively encourage applications from members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans, reservists, service leavers, and military spouses/partners.
