As a Senior Software Engineer within ALTEN, you’ll work on advanced data and autonomy programmes, developing reusable software capabilities and supporting their deployment across safety and mission-critical applications.\nYou’ll work across the full software lifecycle, combining hands-on development with CI/CD, DevSecOps, data integration and cloud technologies to deliver robust solutions that can be deployed across multiple programmes.\nLocation: Bristol / Crawley / Glasgow (Hybrid Working)\nOn-site Requirement: Hybrid working, with site attendance based on project requirements\nSeniority: Senior Engineer\nSecurity Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, test and deploy secure, scalable software solutions within complex engineering environments.\nDevelop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating software development, testing and deployment processes.\nBuild reusable software capabilities supporting data integration, curation and deployment across multiple programmes.\nCollaborate with software, systems, data and infrastructure engineers to deliver integrated solutions.\nDevelop high-quality production code, conduct code reviews, troubleshoot issues and support solutions throughout their lifecycle.\nSupport DevSecOps activities including threat modelling, vulnerability management and security compliance.\nIntegrate third-party data sources, APIs and services into operational software solutions.\nContribute to technical demonstrations, proofs of concept and the evaluation of emerging technologies.\n Required Skills\nStrong C++ development experience, ideally within safety or mission-critical software environments.\nExperience with modern programming languages such as Python, Java, Ruby or Perl.\nStrong CI/CD and DevOps/DevSecOps experience, including automated software build, test and deployment processes.\nExperience with Linux or Windows infrastructure, databases and data integration technologies.\nExperience developing or integrating software within autonomy systems, including planning, perception, control or similar architectures.\nSoft Skills & Collaboration\nStrong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nCollaborative approach with experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nProactive, delivery-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.\nCommercial software development and deployment experience.\nExperience working within complex, regulated or safety-critical engineering environments.\nDesirable Skills\nExperience with cloud platforms, containerisation, microservices and API-based architectures.\nKnowledge of MySQL, MongoDB or similar database technologies.\nExperience delivering large-scale data integration or data management solutions.\nUnderstanding of Agile, DevOps, ITIL or SAFe environments.\nExperience governing software architectures or detailed designs throughout the engineering lifecycle.\n Why join us?\nWe foster a community of dually talented individuals who are both entrepreneurs and technology specialists.
