This role is designed for experienced authorization professionals who demonstrate strong insurance knowledge, leadership potential, and a desire to grow into future Team Lead responsibilities. \nThe Senior Authorization Specialist serves as a subject matter expert for authorization workflows, payer requirements, and authorization strategy. In addition to managing a personal caseload, this individual supports team success by mentoring peers, assisting with training and onboarding, helping identify workflow issues, and providing day-to-day guidance to team members. \nWorking closely with Team Leads and Management, the Senior Authorization Specialist helps maintain productivity, quality, and accountability across the department while developing leadership skills necessary for future advancement opportunities. \nAdvanced Authorization Management \nManage high-volume and complex authorization requests from intake through final determination. \nNavigate payer requirements, authorization criteria, medical necessity guidelines, and documentation requirements. \nAnalyze insurance policies and payer rules to identify authorization pathways and escalation opportunities. \nMaintain accurate and complete documentation within departmental systems. \nProactively follow up with insurance carriers to prevent delays and drive timely determinations. \nTeam Support & Leadership Development \nServe as a resource for Authorization Associates by providing guidance on workflows, payer requirements, and case strategy. \nAssist with onboarding and training new team members through coaching, shadowing, and process support. \nModel professionalism, ownership, and leadership behaviors expected of future leaders. \nOperations & Workflow Excellence \nAssist with workload balancing and daily workflow prioritization. \nMonitor aging inventory and identify requests requiring urgent attention. \nIdentify operational bottlenecks and recommend workflow improvements. \nSupport implementation of process enhancements and best practices. \nInsurance & Payer Expertise \nDevelop advanced knowledge of commercial, government, and managed care payer requirements. \nAssist team members in navigating complex payer requirements and escalation pathways. \nIdentify trends affecting approvals, turnaround times, and authorization outcomes. \nFuture Leadership Expectations \nLeadership presence and accountability. \nAbility to coach, mentor, and support peers. \nStrong decision-making and problem-solving skills. \nReadiness to assume additional leadership responsibilities as opportunities arise. \nKey Performance Indicators (KPIs) \nAuthorization approval rate \nTurnaround time for submissions \nProductivity and volume metrics \nDocumentation quality and accuracy \nAging inventory management \nTimely follow-up and escalation activity \nTraining and mentorship contributions \nLeadership readiness and team support \nExperience & Requirements \nHigh School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelordegree preferred. \n3-5 years of experience in healthcare authorizations, utilization management, insurance verification, revenue cycle management, or related healthcare operations. \nStrong understanding of authorization workflows and payer requirements. \nExperience working directly with insurance carriers. \nDemonstrated success managing complex authorization cases. \nStrong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. \nAdditional Qualifications \nExperience mentoring, training, or onboarding team members. \nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality. \nAbility to influence and support peers without formal supervisory authority. \nProfessional communication with providers, payers, patients, and internal stakeholders. \nCommitment to professional growth and continuous improvement. \nTools & Systems \nCase Management & Workflow Platforms: Salesforce \nProductivity & Reporting: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook \nCommunication: Microsoft Teams, Email, Phone\nPay Range\n$60,000—$80,000 USD\nBenefits\nAlteva RCM offers our employees a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, employee assistance plan, paid family leave, short-term disability and life insurance.
