Overview : \n\nWe are looking for an experienced AS400 Developer to join our technology team and contribute to the development, enhancement, maintenance, and modernization of enterprise applications running on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.\n\nKey Responsibilities : \n\n- Develop, enhance, maintain, and support business-critical applications on the IBM i / AS400 platform.\n\n- Design and develop applications using RPG, RPGLE, CL, and CLLE.\n\n- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective AS400 application solutions.\n\n- Develop and maintain programs, modules, reports, interfaces, and batch processes.\n\n- Work extensively with DB2 for i, including database design, SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and performance optimization.\n\n- Perform application enhancements, bug fixes, impact analysis, and root-cause analysis for existing systems.\n\n- Develop and maintain interfaces between AS400 applications and external systems using APIs, files, messaging, or other integration mechanisms.\n\n- Analyze existing legacy applications and recommend opportunities for modernization, optimization, and improved maintainability.\n\n- Participate in application migration, modernization, and integration initiatives involving IBM i systems.\n\n- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, coding practices, and documentation requirements.\n\n- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.\n\n- Work closely with business analysts, QA teams, architects, infrastructure teams, and other technology stakeholders.\n\n- Support application testing, release activities, deployment, and production implementation.\n\n- Develop unit test cases and perform functional and technical validation of developed solutions.\n\n- Monitor application performance and identify opportunities for improving processing efficiency and system reliability.\n\n- Prepare technical documentation covering application functionality, interfaces, workflows, and implementation details.\n\nRequired Technical Skills : \n\n- Strong hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 development.\n\n- Strong proficiency in RPG, RPGLE, and free-format RPG.\n\n- Good experience with CL and CLLE programming.\n\n- Strong knowledge of DB2 for i.\n\n- Strong SQL development skills, including complex queries, joins, views, and stored procedures.\n\n- Experience with IBM i development tools and environments.\n\n- Good understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, job queues, and IBM i application architecture.\n\n- Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of AS400 applications.\n\n- Good understanding of database design, data structures, file handling, and application integration.\n\n- Experience working with production support and enterprise application environments.\n\n- Knowledge of version control and software development lifecycle practices.\n\nPreferred Skills : \n\n- Experience with RPGLE modernization and legacy application transformation.\n\n- Exposure to REST APIs, web services, or integration with modern applications.\n\n- Experience integrating AS400 applications with Java, web, cloud, or other enterprise platforms.\n\n- Knowledge of IBM i APIs and integration technologies.\n\n- Exposure to IBM MQ or other messaging technologies.\n\n- Experience with automated deployment and CI/CD practices for IBM i environments.\n\n- Understanding of application security and access controls within IBM i environments.\n\n- Experience with performance optimization for high-volume transaction processing.\n\nKey Competencies : \n\n- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\n- Ability to understand complex legacy applications and business processes.\n\n- Strong debugging and troubleshooting capabilities.\n\n- Ability to work independently on complex technical requirements.\n\n- Good communication and stakeholder-management skills.\n\n- Strong focus on code quality, application stability, and maintainability.\n\n- Ability to mentor junior AS400 developers and provide technical guidance.\n\n- Good understanding of enterprise application development and production support processes.\n\nEducation : \n\n- A degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.\n\nRole Expectations : \n\n- The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the stability and continuous enhancement of critical IBM i applications while contributing to modernization and integration initiatives.
