The team is responsible for developing critical backend capabilities, including identity and authentication, permissions management, notifications, auditing, and third-party integrations.\n\nWe're looking for an established senior-level developer with strong Python skills, extensive REST API development experience, and a solid understanding of microservices architecture.\n\nThis is a hands-on engineering role, with approximately 70% new development and 30% maintenance and enhancement of existing systems. You'll work on complex technical challenges, particularly improving performance and reliability across interconnected services while ensuring a seamless customer experience.\n\nWhat's In It for You\n\nCompetitive annual salary of $135,000–$158,000 CAD\n\nHybrid work environment supporting flexibility and collaboration\n\nOpportunity to influence technical architecture and platform scalability\n\nCollaborative engineering culture that values mentorship, innovation, and continuous improvement\n\nExposure to modern cloud technologies and complex distributed systems\n\nYour Responsibilities\n\nDesign, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python.\n\nBuild and enhance microservices supporting authentication, authorization, permissions, notifications, auditing, and external integrations.\n\nDevelop reliable integrations between desktop applications, cloud services, and third-party platforms.\n\nIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks across interconnected services, improving system responsiveness, scalability, and reliability.\n\nContribute to software architecture and API design decisions, balancing performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.\n\nDevelop and maintain cloud-native services using Kubernetes and cloud technologies.\n\nWrite clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to automated testing, CI/CD, and code reviews.\n\nCollaborate with developers, technical leads, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality software.\n\nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers while fostering a collaborative engineering environment.\n\nLeverage AI-assisted development tools where appropriate, maintaining strong engineering judgment and code quality.\n\nOccasionally contribute to frontend development using React and TypeScript.\n\nSkills and Qualifications\n\n8+ years of professional software development experience, ideally with previous experience in a senior-level engineering role.\n\nAt least 2 years of professional Python development experience, preferably as a primary backend language.\n\nStrong hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs in production environments.\n\nSolid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, service-to-service communication, and integrations.\n\nExperience developing backend services within complex, interconnected software platforms.\n\nExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.\n\nHands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native development.\n\nStrong knowledge of software architecture, system performance, scalability, troubleshooting, and optimization.\n\nExperience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and modern software development practices.\n\nAbility to independently solve complex technical problems, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and deliver reliable solutions.\n\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring developers and working across engineering teams.\n\nExperience working in established engineering environments with structured development processes and cross-functional collaboration.\n\nNice to Have\n\nExperience with FastAPI or similar Python frameworks.\n\nHands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).\n\nExperience developing identity, authentication, authorization, or permissions-management services.\n\nExperience troubleshooting and optimizing performance in distributed systems.\n\nFamiliarity with Terraform and infrastructure as code.\n\nExposure to React and TypeScript.\n\nExperience in geoscience, geology, civil engineering, or data-intensive software platforms.\n\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted coding tools and development workflows\n\nWhy Partner with Altis\nIf you’ve never worked with a staffing agency before, we make it easy.
