You will be part of a dynamic team of engineers with the mission to ensure that robotics technologies maturing through the development pipeline are vetted and tested to identify and resolve issues upstream before large-scale deployment and operation. You will manage the infrastructure and operations for the key innovation lab(s) that designers, engineers, and scientists rely on to invent, prototype, test, and perform experiments on the next generation automation technologies for Amazon fulfillment. You will take end-to-end ownership of these lab facilities to transform them into high-performing centers of excellence. \nIf you are passionate about pioneering new technologies for the real world, innovating, and experimenting to enable delivery of automation systems at scale, we want to talk to you.\nKey job responsibilities\n- Manage day-to-day operations of the lab space, including lab user management, shipping & receiving (ranging from single packages to trailer loads), lab cleanliness standards and upkeep, accurate inventory records and re-stocking, lab operating budget management, safety protocols, vendor relationships, capacity planning, and equipment calibration and maintenance. \n- Maintain accurate lab records, including experiment logs, maintenance schedules, and operational reports; assist in compiling technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.\n- Drive continuous improvement in lab operation, equipment utilization, and equipment layout.\n- Partner with product designers and engineers to rapidly translate early-stage concepts into functional prototypes and test fixtures.\n- Partner with scientists and test engineers to implement experiments in the lab.\n- Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering stakeholders to prioritize lab activities that accelerate multi-billion-dollar robotics programs. \n- Manage the full lifecycle of lab operations from intake to setup, execution, and teardown. Create and maintain documentation of lab processes, equipment procedures, and procurement/purchasing activities.\n- Assist team members in the setup and operations of complex robotic systems.\n- Lead resource planning and prioritization across programs to maximize efficiency and impact. Implement metrics and tracking systems to measure and improve lab utilization, quality, reliability, and performance outcomes.\n- Document cost-saving initiatives, efficiency improvements, and lessons learned to scale best lab practices.\nBasic qualifications\n- 5+ years of hardware development, test lab, space/aerospace maintenance or hands-on engineering environment experience\n- Experience managing lab or technical facility resources, utilities infrastructure, equipment, and supplies\n- Experience reading technical drawings and translating concepts into physical prototypes\n- Experience leading or mentoring a small technical team and managing multiple concurrent builds\n- Knowledge of lab safety practices and proper use of industrial and lab equipment\n- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems and documenting findings\n- Strong communication skills, capable of coordinating across multidisciplinary teams.\nPreferred qualifications\n- Experience servicing and maintaining industrial equipment such as robots and conveyors for logistics\n- Experience with robotics testing methodologies, quality assurance processes, and performance validation.\n- Experience with CAD tools and multiple fabrication techniques including CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal bending, and waterjet cutting\n- Experience managing industrial facilities and implementing standardized operating procedures.\n- Track record of driving cost reduction initiatives in lab or manufacturing environments.\nAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
