You'll build and maintain test fixtures, manage lab resources and equipment, and make sure measurements are accurate and traceable. You'll work hands-on with hardware, electrical harnesses, and precision measurement tools, and you'll work closely with design, test, and production teams.\nAs a Lab Engineer, you will support development, readiness, and operation of solar production area and test systems infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to translate test needs into safe, reliable, and repeatable test setups.\nYou will improve current test setups, integrate instrumentation and equipment, perform equipment checkout and commissioning activities, execute complex testing, troubleshoot hardware and test system issues.\nThis is a highly hands-on engineering role that combines mechanical engineering, test system development, production operations, troubleshooting, and testing.\nKey job responsibilities\nSet up, operate, and maintain lab equipment for production station and test hardware.\nPartner with Control Engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to understand test requirements and determine equipment, instrumentation and fixture needs.\nMonitor complex tests, evaluate system behavior, identify abnormal conditions, and safely respond to test anomalies.\nDesign, build, and modify custom test fixtures and tooling.\nOperate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers.\nPerform basic machining operations (drilling, cutting, and similar) to fabricate and modify fixtures and hardware.\nTake measurements and inspect hardware with calipers, micrometers, profilometers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and DAQ systems.\nRead and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, electrical drawings, and GD&T to build, assemble, and verify hardware.\nDevelop, build, troubleshoot, repair, and rework electrical harnesses, working from schematics and electrical drawings.\nDevelop, build, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve mechanical and electromechanical systems including custom fixtures, motors, and control systems, working from schematics, engineering drawings, and first-principles reasoning.\nManage lab resources, equipment, and supplies, including inventory, ordering, and scheduling.\nDevelop and execute preventative maintenance plans for mechanical equipment.\nOrganize and maintain the lab or shop space, and track equipment calibration to keep it current and compliant.\nDocument test setups, procedures, and results.\nEnforce lab safety and housekeeping standards.\nProvide technical guidance to technicians and other personnel on equipment operation, test setup, troubleshooting, and safe test execution.\nBasic qualifications\n- Experience in project management including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing tasks\n- 1 year + of experience in hardware development, industrial equipment maintenance, space/aerospace maintenance, or another hands-on engineering environment.\n- Knowledge of and experience with measurement and inspection devices (torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems).\n- Experience developing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical harnesses.\n- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.\nPreferred qualifications\n- Experience with calibration management systems.\n- Experience with CAD tools for fixture design.\n- Experience applying DFM principles and tolerance analysis to design manufacturable parts and functional assemblies.\n- Experience creating engineering drawings for machining.\n- Experience with harness design tools or documentation (wiring diagrams, pin-out and connector specifications, harness build drawings).\nAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
