Manager III, Software Development, Amazon Business Operations

Amazon Business Operations is building a new software development team focused on commercial delivery experience. Our charter covers bulk buying fulfillment for enterprise, and customizing deliveries for commercial addresses. The WW B2B wholesale e-commerce market for durable goods represents a $1T opportunity, and we estimate to provide leading fulfillment solutions for enterprise and commercial customers over the next three years. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to build and lead a team of engineers in Hyderabad, own the technical roadmap for these workstreams, and ship the software that enables Amazon to successfully deliver large commercial volume. You will stand up a team from scratch, define the architecture for services spanning reactive procurement, full truckload delivery, last mile driver intelligence, and real-time delivery risk scoring. You will partner with product, science, operations, and existing delivery tech teams to integrate with foundational systems while delivering net-new capabilities. Key job responsibilities

- Build and lead a team of SDEs. Own hiring, onboarding, and ramping the team to delivery readiness. Define the team's engineering culture, code review standards, and deployment practices from day one.

- Own the technical roadmap for bulk buying fulfillment and OTR delivery quality for AB customers. Translate the 3-year product vision into a sequenced engineering plan with clear milestones.

- Design and own the architecture for services that integrate with existing Amazon systems including supply chain fulfillment platforms (CQE, TMSB, ABDN), last mile driver tools (Rabbit, AMZL routing), geospatial services, and ML inference endpoints. Make build-vs-integrate decisions for each component and ensure the team ships solutions that are operationally sound and maintainable.

- Partner with product management, data science, business intelligence, QA, and operations teams within AB Ops to align on priorities and delivery timelines. Coordinate with partner operations teams where AB-specific customizations will reside as away-team contributions, ensuring alignment on code ownership, testing, and deployment responsibilities.

- Coach and develop engineers across levels by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and assigning ownership of features that stretch their skills. Establish operational excellence mechanisms including CI/CD pipelines, on-call processes, SLA monitoring, and data quality validations for the services your team owns.

A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing operational metrics and system health dashboards to stay connected to the details of what your team owns. From there, you might join a design review where you challenge assumptions and help the team arrive at a stronger technical approach. Later, you meet one-on-one with an engineer to discuss their career trajectory and align on development goals. In the afternoon, you collaborate with partner teams on an upcoming cross-team initiative, working through resource trade-offs and sequencing decisions before wrapping up by refining your team's quarterly roadmap.

About the team

AB Operations is the logistics partner for Amazon Business and owns the delivery experience for commercial customers. Our organization covers supply chain management, product management, data engineering, applied science, QA, and business intelligence, and we are now adding software development to take on new problems that will unlock a new tier of fulfillment for enterprise customers. The engineering work spans backend services, ML model deployment, driver-facing UX changes, and API integrations with 3P carriers. You will report to the AB Ops tech leadership and work alongside an established org that has a presence in 11 countries.

Basic qualifications

- 7+ years of engineering experience

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
