This candidate must combine strong analytical skills with hands-on experience bringing precision motor and actuator systems from concept through volume manufacturing, and thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.\nKey job responsibilities\nDesign, model, and optimize electric motors (BLDC, PMSM, frameless BLDCs in various configurations such as radial, axial, and transversal flux) for high-torque-density robotic joint actuators \nPerform electromagnetic FEA (JMAG, Ansys Maxwell, MotorCAD, or equivalent) to predict performance, losses, cogging torque, and thermal behavior \nOwn development of novel manufacturing-focused motor concepts based on well-established motor principles \nDevelop design-for-manufacturing specifications (winding process, steel stamping, magnet sintering & magnetization, etc.) to enable cost-efficient volume production while maintaining tight performance tolerances \nCollaborate closely with gear, mechanical, controls, and firmware engineers to deliver fully integrated actuator modules \nOwn vendor relationships for motor lamination stacks, winding houses, magnet suppliers, and contract motor design partners \nDefine and validate motor test protocols (back-EMF, torque-speed curves, thermal characterization, efficiency maps, torque-ripple artefacts, core losses, etc.) \nDrive continuous improvement in motor cost, efficiency, torque density, and reliability across product generations \nGenerate and maintain detailed motor specifications, drawings, and design documentation \nBasic qualifications\n- Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering\n- Experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment, or experience in the mechanical or controls field\n- Experience interpreting and modifying mechanical and electrical drawings\n-\nExperience managing external vendors and co-design partnerships for motor components (laminations, windings, magnets) -\nExperience with motor design and electromagnetic FEA software (JMAG, Ansys Maxwell, MotorCAD, SPEED, or equivalent)\nPreferred qualifications\n-\nMaster's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics with a focus on electric machine design -\nExperience designing compact, high-torque-density frameless or integrated motors for robotics or aerospace applications -\nFamiliarity with IEC, NEMA, or other motor standards and rating methods -\nExperience with highly integrated actuator designs combining motor, gear, sensor, and drive electronics in a single module -\nKnowledge of advanced magnet materials (NdFeB, SmCo), demagnetization analysis, and magnet supply chain considerations -\nExperience with thermal management of compact motor assemblies (potting, liquid cooling, thermal path optimization) Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
