You will be the technical authority on optical characterization, establishing measurement methodologies that ensure world-class image quality, display performance, and sensor accuracy.\nKey Responsibilities\nOptical Measurement & Characterization\nDesign and implement comprehensive optical test methodologies for cameras, displays, projectors, and optical sensors across the product development lifecycle\nDevelop automated measurement systems for image quality assessment (MTF, distortion, color accuracy, dynamic range, noise characterization)\nEstablish display metrology protocols (luminance uniformity, color gamut, viewing angle, contrast ratio, flicker)\nCreate optical alignment and calibration procedures for multi-camera systems and depth sensors Quality & Standards Leadership\nDefine optical performance specifications, host demo and validate acceptance criteria in collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering teams\nDrive root cause analysis for optical defects and performance issues using advanced measurement techniques\nEstablish correlation between subjective image quality assessments and objective measurements\nDevelop failure analysis methodologies for optical components and modules Infrastructure & Tooling\nBuild and maintain state-of-the-art optical measurement labs with equipment including spectroradiometers, goniophotometers, integrating spheres, and imaging test targets\nDevelop custom measurement software and automation scripts (Python, MATLAB) for high-throughput testing\nImplement statistical process control (SPC) for optical manufacturing quality monitoring\nCreate measurement uncertainty budgets and validate measurement system capability (GR&R studies) Cross-Functional Collaboration\nPartner with Display/optical/advance manufacturing Engineering teams to optimize optical designs for manufacturability and performance\nWork with Contract Manufacturers to implement optical testing at production scale\nSupport Product teams with competitive benchmarking and optical performance trade-off analysis Innovation & Continuous Improvement\nResearch emerging optical measurement technologies and integrate into development workflows\nPublish internal technical standards and best practices documentation\nMentor junior engineers on optical measurement principles and techniques\nDrive cost reduction initiatives through measurement optimization and automation Work Environment\nThis role is based in Taipei\nRequires travel to manufacturing sites (20~50%)\nHands-on lab work with optical equipment and prototypes\nCollaborative environment working across hardware, software, and product teams Why Amazon Devices? You'll work with world-class engineers, and have the resources to build measurement capabilities that set industry standards.\nBasic qualifications\n- 5+ years of experience in optical metrology, characterization, or related field\n- Familiar with color science\n- Hands-on expertise with optical measurement equipment (spectroradiometers, colorimeters, MTF benches, integrating spheres)\n- Strong understanding of imaging systems, photometry, colorimetry, and radiometry\n- Proficiency in measurement automation using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW\n- Proven track record of driving optical quality improvements in consumer electronics or similar products\nPreferred qualifications\n- Master's or PhD in Optical Sciences, Imaging Science, or related field\n- Deep expertise in camera characterization (MTF, distortion, shading, color calibration, HDR performance)\n- Experience with computational photography and multi-camera system calibration\n- Knowledge of display technologies (LCD, OLED, microLED) and measurement standards (VESA, IEC)\n- Familiarity with 3D sensing technologies (structured light, ToF, stereo vision)\n- Experience establishing optical test capabilities at contract manufacturers in Asia\n- Published research in optical measurement or imaging science\n- Strong statistical analysis skills (DOE, regression analysis, capability studies\n- Experience with machine learning approaches to image quality assessment\n- Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
