SATCOM Gov SysDev Engineer

As a System Development Engineer III at Amazon Leo Government, you will define satcom business operations data engineering and customer operational health that raise the bar across multiple teams. You will design and implement resilient, scalable systems while driving test automation and business process improvements that reduce complexity and harness Amazon AI tech to eliminate repetitive work. Your technical expertise will directly shape how teams build, operate systems that our customers and leadership depend on - and your strategic thinking will ensure those systems are ready for what comes next.

Key job responsibilities

- Design technology solutions and architectures that solve complex business and technical problems, decomposing difficult challenges into straightforward components that can be delivered incrementally by you and your teammates.

- Define and implement engineering best practices and operational excellence standards across teams, including leading architecture reviews, design reviews, operational readiness reviews, and post-incident analyses.

- Identify and drive automation opportunities that reduce operational burden, lower costs, and improve system resiliency - building accessible, inclusive tooling and processes that multiple teams can adopt and extend.

- Partner with engineers, technical program managers, and team leaders to develop technical strategy, influence prioritization, and ensure your organization invests appropriately in sustainable operations and risk mitigation.

- Mentor and coach engineers across your organization, contributing to hiring, career development, and technical assessments while producing exemplary artifacts - code, documentation, runbooks, and dashboards - that set the standard for others.

Security Clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI, so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration

A day in the life

You start by reviewing business operational metrics and customer onboarding dashboards to understand the health of your customer systems, then jump into a design review where you help a teammate simplify a proposed architecture. After lunch, you write code for an automation project that will eliminate a recurring class of operational issues across several teams. Later, you collaborate with partner teams to align on integration checkpoints for an upcoming launch, and close out the day by providing feedback on a colleague's runbook and mentoring a junior engineer on troubleshooting techniques.

Basic qualifications

- Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure

- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

- Experience with Linux/Unix

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

- Experience with data analytics platforms (Power BI, Python, SQL, Tableau), or experience with advanced use of SQL for data mining and business intelligence

Preferred qualifications

- Experience with distributed systems at scale

- Experience with at least one automated test framework like Selenium or Appium

- Experience configuring, scripting, or integrating an enterprise ITSM/CRM platform such as ServiceNow, Salesforce, or Jira Service Management

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
