This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a mechanical or controls engineering specialist. You will own the mechanical and building automation backbone (HVAC, central plant, BMS/BAS, sequences of operation, fault detection) for the global GREF portfolio, while partnering across the broader MEP disciplines. \nThe ideal candidate combines deep, demonstrable expertise in mechanical systems and building controls with strong leadership and strategic thinking. You are fluent in the language of open-protocol building automation - BACnet, Modbus, Niagara/Tridium - and you can read a sequence of operations, interrogate a controls submittal, and diagnose why a system is not performing. You will develop and execute global engineering initiatives that enhance workplace environments, improve operational efficiency, and advance sustainability goals, navigating complex stakeholder relationships and making data-driven decisions that balance innovation with cost-effectiveness at a global scale. \nKey job responsibilities\n- Standards & specifications - Develop and maintain global controls/BMS and mechanical design standards, guidelines, and specifications - including sequences of operation, points lists, and naming/tagging conventions - for new construction and retrofits.\n- Automation architecture - Define open-protocol BMS architecture (BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus, Niagara/FOX, MQTT), network topology, and integration; partner with InfoSec and IT on OT network security and data governance.\n- Operations & maintenance - Lead operational guidelines and SOPs for mechanical systems, controls, and equipment.\n- Performance & FDD - Establish fault detection & diagnostics, trending, and analytics to drive optimization and energy efficiency across the portfolio.\n- Technical leadership - Provide SME support to regional teams on complex mechanical and controls issues, including commissioning, Test and Balance (TAB), and root-cause failure analysis.\n- Lifecycle & modernization - Develop strategies for equipment lifecycle management, preventive maintenance, and system modernization.\n- Sustainability - Advance corporate environmental goals through mechanical and BMS initiatives.\n- Technology & innovation - Evaluate and recommend new building systems, controls, and smart-building technologies.\n- Metrics & vendors - Set KPIs and track portfolio improvements; partner with procurement on equipment/controls-vendor standards, qualification, and performance.\n- Strategy & growth - Support due diligence for acquisitions and renovations, deliver technical training, and shape long-term strategy and capital planning.\nAbout the team\nThe GREF Global Engineering team drives continuous improvement for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across Amazon's corporate office portfolio worldwide.
