The preferred candidate would have demonstrated experience in robotics, mechatronics, experience with machine safety and/or functional safety standards, and possess excellent communication skills. This position reports directly to the System Architect.\nKey job responsibilities\nThe Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer will: \n- Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems\n- Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale\n- Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams\n- Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale\n- Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems\n- Perform technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, HARA, etc.), devise mitigation plans, and create system test strategies\n- Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation\n- Drive and prioritize execution of system test campaigns that span lab and field testing environments in collaboration with subsystem development and test teams (test readiness reviews, test execution, post-test analysis and reporting)\n- Guide and inform, via analyses, cross-functional architecture definition \n- Mentor junior engineers in engineering best practices, and participate in hiring of new team members\nBasic qualifications\n- Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) field\n- 7+ years of professional experience\n- Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs\n- Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g. hardware engineering, software engineering, controls, functional safety, program management)\n- Experience identifying and analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems\nPreferred qualifications\n- Experience with industrial robotics and automated material handling solutions\n- Experience with machine learning systems\n- Experience developing and supporting hardware/software systems across the product life cycle\n- Experience with scalable production systems\n- Experience with developing safety-critical systems and supporting related regulatory compliance needs\n- Experience with 1 or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic Vehicles/Manipulation, Autonomy, Perception and Controls\n- 9+ years of experience in integrated system design\nAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
