As an Embedded software Engineer on our new Bangalore device software team, you will bring up new hardware from first power-on, develop firmware for companion microcontrollers, and own the peripheral interfaces that connect our devices to the physical world. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with hardware engineers on schematic reviews and signal integrity, and debug hardware-software interactions at the bench with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.\nKey job responsibilities\nLead SoC/MCU board bring-up: power sequencing, clock configuration, peripheral initialization\nDevelop and maintain firmware for companion MCUs (sensor fusion, audio processing, motor control)\nImplement and optimize peripheral drivers: SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO, ADC/DAC, PWM\nCollaborate with hardware engineers on schematic review, signal integrity, and design-for-testability\nDevelop hardware abstraction layers (HAL) for cross-platform portability\nSupport manufacturing test firmware and production programming flows\nDebug hardware-software interaction issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG\nA day in the life\nAs a member of the team, you will serve as the technical leader for device software development and operations. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Alexa Devices and Alexa Cloud teams to define roadmaps, plan requirements, make prioritization trade-offs, and feature development. You will partner with principal engineers to brainstorm solutions, solve problems, and deliver features. \nAbout the team\nThe Alexa Connected Devices team delivers low-latency, low-cost, highly reliable, and scalable connectivity between Alexa-enabled devices and the Alexa Cloud. We improve the speed and reliability of customer interactions with Alexa while simplifying the developer experience by abstracting connection management. Our services handle tens of billions of transactions daily. This is a highly visible role spanning inception, feature development, and partnering closely with tier-1 Cloud Services. The ideal candidate is passionate about Alexa and thrives delivering high-quality device capabilities in a hyper-growth environment.\nBasic qualifications\n- 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience\n- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience\n- Experience programming with at least one software programming language\n- 4+ years of embedded firmware development experience\n- Proficiency in C and embedded C++; experience with bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware\n- Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-A processors\n- Strong understanding of peripheral bus protocols: SPI, I²C, UART, CAN\n- Ability to read schematics and use lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG debugger)\n- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience\nPreferred qualifications\n- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience\n- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent\n- Experience understanding the basics of software testing or hardware devices like tablets, smartphones, voice recognition devices etc.\n- Experience with low-power design techniques (sleep modes, clock gating, voltage scaling)\n- Background in audio DSP, sensor fusion, or motor control firmware\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
