Software Development Manager, Promotions Purchase Execution & Experience (PPEX)

We are hiring a Software Development Manager to lead Reversal Promotions (RPP) service, a two-pizza team within Promotions Purchase Execution & Experience (PPEX) that owns the promotions calculation core - the Tier-1 services that determine promotion applicability, combinability, and the final discount amount on the checkout and post checkout critical path. The manager owns the team’s services, roadmap, operational health, and talent development; drives down RPP on-call load (currently the highest in the org); and, in partnership with TPMs, delivers the team’s marquee goals.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead a two-pizza team of software engineers - hire, develop, and grow the team, and own performance, delivery, and Day 1 culture.
- Own the team roadmap and the operational health of its Tier-1 service, balancing feature delivery, tech-debt reduction, and benefit-accuracy testing.
- Drive operational improvements: reduce SEV-2 frequency and mean time to resolution, close operational action items derived from operational issues, and bring on-call paging load down.
- Partner with TPMs, Product, and upstream/downstream checkout, ordering (CASE), and fulfillment teams to sequence dependencies and deliver cross-team goals.
A day in the life
- Lead the team in daily standup meetings, sprint planning, retrospectives, and project deep dives.
- Manage partner and customer communication and escalations with dependency team leads.
- Regular 1:1s with the team to focus on career development of the individual contributors.
Basic qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
- 5+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
