STMs troubleshoot and resolve technical, material, and process issues, oversee assembly and packout processes, drive cost, process, and yield improvements. STMs apply lean methodologies, support site acceptance testing (SAT), and DFx (Design for Automation, Manufacturing, Cost). STMs work closely with Amazon’s Contract Manufacturer (CM) and Amazon’s product design and automation engineers.\nKey job responsibilities\nAs Senior STM, you:\nown resolution of technical issues for multiple products in a fast-paced, automation-focused factory;\nwork quickly and collaboratively with colleagues and suppliers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve automation, material, process, and procedure issues;\ndrive continuous improvements to manufacturing and automation processes, including oversight of the Contract Manufacturer’s continuous improvement program;\nidentify and design required assembly and test fixtures for new and existing products;\nwork with others on new product design-for-automation, create standard operating procedures and processes, and oversee the Contract Manufacturer’s operator training program to ensure readiness before production;\nidentify and drive quality improvement and cost reduction goals, including oversight of the Contract Manufacturer’s incoming quality control processes;\noversee the Contract Manufacturer’s preventive maintenance program to ensure equipment availability meets production requirements. A day in the life The STM will be actively engaged in managing the factory and its processes, on the floor working with suppliers and operators, monitoring the performance of packout lines, and identifying ideas for continuous improvement. As new programs are introduced to the site, the STM will play a key role in identifying the manufacturing processes to aid in scoping work and cost. And as issues arise, the STM will be the key leader to bring together all the technical resources needed to quickly diagnose, triage, contain, fix, and restore services to enable the site to meet its on-time delivery goals. About the team Device Postponement Operations (DPO) is Amazon Lab126’s team responsible for in-region postponement, customization, and pack-out of Amazon’s innovative devices. We finalize the assembly of devices using automated assembly and pack-out lines so that Amazon can customize products to meet just-in-time demand. We enable Amazon to deliver very quickly to our customers the right configuration of a product at low cost and high quality. We deliver delightfully unique Amazon experiences, giving customers instant access to everything, digital, or physical.\nBasic qualifications\n- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures\n- Experience with process improvements (Lean Six Sigma and/or Kaizen)\n- Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent\n- Experience as on-site technical lead for high-volume manufacturing and complex packout, leading issue resolution, and overseeing routine machine maintenance and monitoring\n- Demonstrated experience with cycle time waterfall and line balancing, SOP generation, personnel training\n- Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures while launching programs in a phase-gate release (e.g., xVT, Ramp) and acceptance-test process (FAT, SAT); basic GD&T and DFx (Manufacturing, Cost, Test)\n- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with quality concepts, tools, and methods such as 8D, DOE, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Measurement Systems Analysis, fishbone diagrams, 5Whys\n- Data management and analysis using Minitab; Yield reporting with Pareto, Cp/Cpk, GR&R\n- Experience with precision measurement and inspection devices such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, OMM, profilometers, optical inspection devices, multi-meters, and torque wrenches\n- Manufacturing knowledge and relevant work experience in Supplier Quality, Product Quality, or Product Reliability\n- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways, including handling ambiguous or undefined challenges\n- Demonstrated ability to gain deep understanding of the business and end user needs quickly, using customer insights and data\n- 10+ years' experience in operations, working with and managing OEM/CM suppliers, throughout the product life cycle from Concept to EOL with minimum 5 years experience as STM\nPreferred qualifications\n- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent\n- Master's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent\n- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification\n- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production\n- Experience with the project management of technical projects\n- Experience with PLCs including programming and interfacing with shop floor control systems, IPC, pneumatics, and servomotors\n- Experience working with automated equipment suppliers and integrators, including designing or implementing integrated automation solutions (e.g., material handling systems, high-speed packaging lines, manufacturing lines)\n- Knowledge of robotics (6DOF, SCARA, or Gantry programming) or technical expertise in Industrial Automation or Human Centered Design\n- Experience interpreting, modifying, and developing mechanical and electrical drawings\nAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
