You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing (QTP/ATP) the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling. You will manage and support fabrication, testing and commissioning of the tooling into manufacturing.\nThis is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you'll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains.\nKey job responsibilities\nThe Tooling Engineer position involves:\n- Leading satellite tool development throughout the product lifecycle\n- Designing and implementing assembly and test equipment\n- Converting technical needs into user-friendly solutions\n- Overseeing projects, timelines, and costs\nThis role demands:\n- Strong performance in a dynamic environment\n- Excellence in quality and standards\n- Problem-solving and innovation skills\n- Team collaboration\n- Flexibility to handle diverse responsibilities\nExport Control Requirement:\nDue to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.\nAbout the team\nAmazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to un-served and under-served communities around the world.\nBasic qualifications\n- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent\n- 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience\n- 1+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T\n- 1+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis\nPreferred qualifications\n- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations\n- Experience designing material handling equipment that interfaces with aircraft\n- Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing\n- Strong background in the design of mechanism, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling\n- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals\n- Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.\n- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling\n- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations\n- Experience with NX 3D modeling package and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.\n- Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 55, Six Sigma, etc.) a plus\nAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.\nOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
