Businesses and organisations use this intelligence \nthrough our APIs and platforms to understand environmental risk and make better decisions. \nBehind it are data systems that process massive volumes of data every day, so scale, accuracy \nand reliability are core to everything we build. \n\nAbout the role \nWe're hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to design, build and scale the systems behind Ambee's \nclimate intelligence products. You'll build high-throughput applications and large, data-driven \napplications that our customers rely on to run climate intelligence and make better business \ndecisions. You'll own features end to end, from APIs, data stores and pipelines to the React \napplications customers use daily. The work involves millions of API calls, large datasets and \nheavy aggregations. You'll also guide other engineers and help set technical direction. \n\nWhat you'll do \n Gather requirements with stakeholders and turn them into documented, scalable, fault-tolerant and highly available designs. \nDesign, build and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs in Node.js, using a microservices approach, that handle millions of requests reliably. \nBuild fast, responsive, SEO-friendly front-end applications and dashboards in React. \nModel and optimise data across MongoDB and relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), including complex queries and aggregation pipelines over large datasets. \nUse Redis for caching, rate limiting, queues and other performance-critical patterns. \nArchitect, deploy and monitor services on AWS with a focus on performance, availability and cost. \nTune performance across the stack, including query optimisation, indexing, caching, concurrency, load handling and deployment strategy. \nBreak complex features into atomic tasks with detailed designs and effort estimates. \nOwn multiple services maintained by the team, from design through release and production support. \nLead design discussions, review code and mentor engineers to raise the bar across the team. \nWork closely with product, data teams to ship reliable data products. \n\nWhat you'll need \n6+ years of professional software development, with significant full stack experience. \nStrong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and system design. \nStrong JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5 and CSS3 skills. TypeScript is a plus. \nDeep hands-on experience with Node.js (Express, NestJS or similar) for building production REST APIs and microservices. \nStrong experience with React, modern front-end tooling and state management, and with \nresponsive, SEO-optimised front ends. \nSolid experience with MongoDB, including schema design, indexing and the aggregation \nframework. \nSolid experience with at least one relational database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL. \nPractical experience with Redis. \nWorking knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS and CloudWatch. \nA proven track record of building big data applications that handle millions of API calls and large datasets, and of debugging them under real production load. \nExperience driving the full SDLC in an agile team, covering requirements, design, development, unit testing and CI/CD automation. \nA user-first mindset and a commitment to engineering, security and design best practices. \n\nGood to have \nRelevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect. \nExperience with LLMs and generative AI frameworks (for example LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, vector databases). \nPython experience. \nExposure to Apache Spark and to building and deploying data pipelines (ETL/ELT, batch or streaming). \nDevOps exposure including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and observability tooling. \n\nWho you are \nYou work independently.
