The engineers of the mid-1900s put a man on the moon in eight years, designed and built planes and submarines from scratch in under three, and conceived of building things we wouldn’t even be able to dream up today.\nToday, the last of the engineers who imagined and built these systems are retiring. As they go, we lose not only the engineering knowledge gained from their decades of imagination and trial-and-error, but also the spirit that made that imagination possible.\nAmca is working day-in and day-out to restore America’s ability to engineer anything that our critical systems depend on, and reinvigorate the cycle of creation that allows imagination to shape physical reality. We rapidly develop and manufacture new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. By restoring the capability of our antiquated supply chains, we increase the country’s capacity to imagine and realize new systems, and make a physical world that looks very different from today.\nOverview\nThe Electrical Design Engineering Intern works alongside our electrical team to take aerospace hardware from concept toward flight qualification. You will own a scoped electrical design project for the summer, with a dedicated mentor and direct access to the build and test engineers who will bring your work to life.\nThis is not a shadowing program. Interns at Amca design, build, and debug real hardware. You should expect your schematics and boards to be reviewed with the same rigor as a full-time engineer's, and to have something on the bench before you leave.\nResponsibilities\nDesign electronics from concept to functional prototype, including hardware selection, PCB design, and system-level integration\nContribute to the design and prototyping of new electrical hardware\nSupport electrical design for flight hardware, including schematic capture, electrical analysis, component selection, and PCBA layout\nBuild up early hardware, then iterate quickly based on results\nRun bench testing and basic functional and development tests on the hardware you build\nDebug failures down to root cause and carry the fix back into the design\nTroubleshoot issues that span the system, using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters\nSelect components with attention to de-rating, tolerance, and availability, and defend those choices in design review\nWork closely with other electrical, mechanical, software,, and test engineers to deliver fully functional products\nWork with test engineering to help define and execute functional and environmental and EMI test plans\nIncorporate manufacturability and testability feedback from build engineers into your systems\nHelp evaluate existing Amca designs for opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost\nWork in a fast-paced environment supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer-operated hardware\nConcurrently manage involvement in multiple projects at various stages\nPresent your project and results to the engineering team at the end of the internship\nBasic Qualifications\nCurrently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, or a related field\nReturning to school in Fall 2027, or graduating in Spring 2027 and interested in a full-time role. Must be returning to school at the end of the internship to continue academic studies for at least one quarter or semester\nAbility to commit to a full-time, in-person 10-week internship in one of our offices in Summer 2027\nCompleted coursework in circuits, electronics, or signals, and a working understanding of first principles across power, filtering, and logic\nHands-on electrical design experience through coursework, a student project team, personal projects, or a prior internship\nFamiliarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, debuggers, and current probes, and test automation\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nExperience with Altium Designer or equivalent electronic design automation tools\nExperience with circuit simulation, component selection, and de-rating\nExperience on a student project team building electronics for physical hardware, such as rocketry, Formula SAE, CubeSat, or robotics\nFamiliarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810 or other qualification and certification frameworks\nExceptionally curious and a fast learner, able to contribute across diverse part categories and manufacturing processes\nDemonstrated ability to use engineering first principles to challenge and simplify requirements\nHands-on and practical, comfortable building, testing, and troubleshooting in real-world environments\nThrives with ownership and takes initiative without waiting to be directed\nAdditional Requirements\nThis internship is on-site in El Segundo, California.\nOccasional travel to vendors or other Amca sites may be required\nHourly Pay Range\n$30—$50 USD\nThis position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.
