The ideal candidate will have a strong database management background combined with a deep understanding of how databases really work. As a Database Administrator, you will not only mentor and guide our engineers but also participate in architectural and key decision-making forums regarding our databases, ensuring a focus is always on the reliability of our systems and centred on positive customer experience. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our databases.\nWhat You'll Do\nAdminister, manage, and maintain both internal development and customer SQL databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, PostgreSQL).\n\nPossess a good understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP) to design, implement and manage cloud database infrastructure.\n\nAutomate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency through scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Python).\n\nMonitor, analyse and optimise database performance across a large database estate.\n\nTroubleshoot and resolve reported database-related issues, providing timely and effective solutions.\n\nCollaborate with development teams to design and implement robust database solutions.\n\nAct as the database Subject Matter Expert (SME) during the investigation and resolution of live customer incidents.\n\nEnsure data security, privacy, and compliance with all applicable policies and standards.\n\nUndertake database project work as required\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nQualifications:\nEducation: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.\n\nExperience: 5+ years of experience in a Database Administration or related role with at least 2 of those years working in a cloud database environment.\n\nCloud Technologies: Good knowledge and understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)\n\nDatabase Technologies: Progressive experience with boxed databases (e.g. SQL Server and PostgreSQL) together with hands-on experience of cloud database management (e.g. Azure SQL Database, Amazon Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL).\n\nArchitectural Design: Proven experience in providing oversight, with a strong ability to make informed decisions that drive system performance and scalability.\n\nScripting: Strong SQL skills (including TSQL and PL/pgSQL) together with proficiency in languages such as PowerShell and Python.\n\nDataOps: Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines for database changes.\n\nMonitoring and Logging: Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana and DataDog.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nDatabase certifications (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and/or cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP) are highly desirable.\n\nStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.\n\nKnowledge of security best practices and compliance standards in cloud database environments.\n\nFamiliarity with NoSQL technologies.\n\nExposure to containerization.\n\nMake an Impact\nAt AMCS, your work goes beyond maintaining databases.
