Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuityand a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’lldiscover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.Together, we advance your career.\nTHE ROLE\nJoin a dynamic and inventive mechanical engineering team where you’ll be directly involved in designing, analyzing, and validating advanced hardware platforms for AI computing, data center, and client systems. Your contributions will center on developing mechanical components and assemblies, conducting FEA and structural analysis, and supporting validation efforts to ensure outstanding product reliability and performance. To achieve so, you’ll interact regularly with teams focused on silicon design, board engineering, validation, manufacturing, as well as leaders within AMD, our customers, and partners.\nThis role is perfect for an engineer enthusiastic about tackling complex server and rack-level challenges, such as optimizing force-saving features, ensuring high-speed connector engagement, advancing liquid cooling and connection technologies, creating floating mechanisms, and refining structures to meet rigorous transportation shock and vibration tests. You'll enjoy a balance in your workdays: splitting your time between hands-on lab work, running validation tests, and diving into CAD design and optimization. The position offers a rewarding mix of technical depth and creative problem-solving, with plenty of opportunity to see your ideas move from concept to real-world impact.\nThis is an onsite role based in Secaucus, NJ.\nTHE PERSON\nYou have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools. You bring working knowledge of structural analysis using industry-standard FEA tools and are motivated to apply these skills to real-world product development challenges.\nYou possess the ability to create a robust testing strategy that effectively validates system-level designs, even when working with limited data. With a keen eye for detail, you quickly assess complex issues, pinpoint their root causes, and apply targeted design optimizations to boost performance across the board.\nYou are a collaborative team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to interpret results and translate them into practical design improvements in a fast-paced engineering environment.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nThe mechanical development engineer plays a pivotal role in launching innovative designs from the ground up, working hand in hand with OEM and ODM partners to turn initial concepts into detailed blueprints and rapidly produce mockups for early-stage testing. Success in this position is defined by the ability to foresee potential product hurdles, implement cost-effective design strategies, and meticulously plan testing to identify and resolve any concerns. At every stage of production, the engineer continuously refines designs to enhance performance while diligently meeting all project deadlines.\nDesign and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD tools (Creo preferred, SolidWorks acceptable)\nDevelop testing strategies for every crucial phase of the process, and actively participate in both troubleshooting and refining design optimizations.\nCreate and maintain detailed 2D drawings, GD&T, and engineering documentation in accordance with AMD and industry standards\nPerform structural and vibration analyses using FEA tools such as Abaqus and/or ANSYS to assess mechanical integrity and product reliability\nSupport design trade studies, tolerance analysis, and material selection to meet product requirements\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, thermal, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers throughout the product development lifecycle\nParticipate in design reviews, provide technical input, and implement feedback\nSupport prototype builds, system bring-up, debugging, and failure analysis\nAssist with transition from development to manufacturing, including vendor engagement and design for manufacturability (DFM)\nPREFERRED EXPERIENCE\nSenior level experience with electronics packaging, compute hardware, or data center systems\nFamiliarity with sheet metal, cast, machined, and plastic component design\nFamiliarity with EE component layout, exposure to DXF file generation and ECAD (Allegro)\nExposure to thermal-mechanical coupling, vibration/shock, or reliability analysis, as well as FloTherm\nExperience supporting products through prototype and manufacturing release phases\nKnowledge of mechanical design and validation industry standards\nACADEMIC CREDENTIALS\nBS in Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred\nAny speculation in related field is advantageous\nAn advanced Engineering degree would be an added plus\nThis role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.\nBenefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.\nAMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services. AMD and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
