This is a highly visible PMTS-level individual contributor opportunity focused on one of AMD’s key infrastructure modernization efforts as we evolve from traditionally managed lab environments toward scalable, automated, cloud-like infrastructure.\nIn this role, you will partner closely with our primary architect and infrastructure leaders to define the architecture and, equally importantly, drive that vision into implementation. You will help establish how infrastructure services are designed, deployed, and scaled across AMD environments, working across networking, virtualization, storage, observability, automation, and Infrastructure as a Service.\nYou will have the opportunity to influence long-term infrastructure strategy, evaluate technologies and tools, develop implementation roadmaps, and partner with teams responsible for deploying the architecture across our sites. This is an opportunity to bring experience from hyperscaler, near-hyperscaler, neocloud, or similarly large-scale infrastructure environments and apply it to a significant transformation within AMD.\nTHE PERSON:\nThe ideal candidate combines deep infrastructure architecture knowledge with the ability to turn architectural vision into execution. You can operate at a strategic level while maintaining enough technical depth to guide teams through implementation and make informed technology decisions.\nYou are an effective cross-functional partner who can evaluate competing technologies, build alignment across technical teams, and influence without relying on direct authority. You are equally comfortable communicating with engineering teams and presenting architecture, recommendations, and realistic roadmaps to senior leadership. Strong planning, communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills will be important to success in this role.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nPartner with infrastructure leaders and architects to define and evolve the target-state architecture for AMD’s global lab and data center infrastructure.\nHelp transform traditionally managed lab and data center environments into scalable, highly automated, cloud-like infrastructure.\nTranslate architecture into actionable implementation roadmaps and drive execution across infrastructure teams and sites.\nEvaluate infrastructure technologies, tools, and services and provide architectural direction around technology selection.\nProvide architectural leadership across networking, hypervisors/virtualized compute, storage, observability, automation, bare-metal infrastructure, and Infrastructure as a Service.\nPartner with managers and technical teams to establish priorities and guide implementation of architectural standards and designs.\nBuild alignment across the business and with senior leadership around infrastructure architecture, automation, security, customer-support needs, and long-term direction.\nHelp influence infrastructure technology and purchasing decisions needed to deliver the target architecture.\nDuring initial onboarding, develop a strong understanding of AMD’s architecture goals, current infrastructure environment, data center landscape, and active deployments.\nBegin driving architectural plans into delivery teams and identifying sites and environments for implementation.\nEstablish a longer-term roadmap for scaling and implementing the architecture across AMD’s infrastructure environment.\nPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:\nExperience architecting and implementing infrastructure in a hyperscaler, near-hyperscaler, neocloud, large-scale hosting, or comparable cloud infrastructure environment.\nDeep understanding of cloud infrastructure architecture combined with experience taking architecture through implementation.\nStrong networking knowledge, including segmented network environments.\nExperience with hypervisors and virtualized compute infrastructure.\nStrong understanding of enterprise-scale storage architecture.\nExperience with observability, monitoring, and infrastructure telemetry.\nExperience designing or supporting Infrastructure as a Service and API-driven infrastructure.\nExperience with automation, bare-metal infrastructure, and modern infrastructure management practices.\nExperience developing technical roadmaps and driving architecture implementation across multiple teams or locations.\nAbility to evaluate tools and technologies, understand trade-offs, and make recommendations based on technical and business requirements.\nExperience communicating complex architecture and infrastructure strategy to senior or executive leadership.\nDemonstrated ability to influence cross-functional technical teams and drive execution without direct authority.\nGPU, AI data center, HPC, or similarly large-scale compute infrastructure experience is desired.\nACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.\nLOCATION: Austin, TX preferred.
