AMD

AMD is an American semiconductor company founded in 1969 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, that designs processors, graphics chips and adaptive computing hardware without owning fabrication plants. Its Ryzen and Threadripper processors and Radeon graphics serve consumers and creators, EPYC server chips have taken a large share of the data centre market from Intel, and the Instinct accelerators compete for AI training and inference workloads. The 2022 acquisition of Xilinx added field-programmable gate arrays and adaptive systems on chip, and the company also supplies the custom silicon inside the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - GPU Profiling Tools for the Developer Tools team, where you will contribute to the development and optimization of GPU profiling tools for HPC and AI workloads. You will work alongside a team of skilled engineers, collaborating to enhance the profiling tools' capabilities and support broader strategic projects, including participating in new ASIC and hardware bring-ups.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is passionate about software engineering and has the technical leadership skills to drive complex issues to resolution. The candidate should have a strong understanding of GPU and computer system architecture, advanced C++ programming skills, and a strong interest in GPU developer tools, profiling methodologies, and low-level systems software. The candidate should be detail-oriented, proactive in solving complex technical challenges, and able to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with firmware, architecture, driver, and runtime teams to enable profiling for next-generation AMD GPUs in both pre-silicon and post-silicon environments
  • Design, develop, and maintain ROCprofiler-SDK components for GPU performance profiling
  • Design and implement firmware, driver, and runtime interfaces required for low-overhead, advanced profiling and telemetry features
  • Implement new features and APIs to enhance profiling capabilities for AI and HPC workloads
  • Optimize profiling tools for accuracy, scalability, and minimal overhead
  • Debug and resolve issues across application, runtime, driver, firmware, and hardware layers to improve tool reliability
  • Stay current with GPU architecture advancements and integrate them into ROCprofiler-SDK
  • Contribute to documentation and developer resources for ROCprofiler-SDK

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong proficiency in C++ and object-oriented programming
  • Experience with performance analysis tools or profiling frameworks
  • Understanding of GPU architecture and system-level performance concepts
  • Experience with Linux kernel development, kernel drivers, firmware, or low-level system software
  • Experience with performance-monitoring technologies such as tracing, hardware counters, or similar profiling technologies
  • Experience debugging and developing software across multiple layers of the system stack, including applications, runtimes, drivers, firmware, and hardware interfaces
  • Experience with multithreading and concurrency in modern C++
  • Familiarity with ROCm ecosystem and tools is highly desirable
  • Experience with AI-powered developer tools and ability to effectively leverage them in day-to-day development workflows, including code generation, debugging, performance optimization, and productivity improvements
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and debugging tools
  • Familiarity with GPU programming models (HIP) is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Knowledge of Linux development environments; Windows experience is a plus

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
