ADVANCE THE WORLD.\nAt AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.\nWhether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger - technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.\nStaff Software Development Engineer - Yocto / Embedded Linux\nTHE ROLE:\nAMD is seeking a highly motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Embedded System Software team, building the Yocto-based build infrastructure and board support software that enable AMD Adaptive SoCs and FPGAs. You will own the layers, distributions, and toolchains that turn new AMD silicon into a buildable, supportable software platform for Linux, OpenBMC, and real-time workloads.\nWorking alongside AMD silicon architects, hardware designers, kernel and firmware teams, and the Yocto and OpenEmbedded communities, you will take new silicon from first power-on to a supportable, upstreamable platform, and build the images, SDKs, and reference designs customers develop against.\nTHE PERSON:\nThe ideal candidate is passionate about embedded Linux and build systems, and enjoys solving complex system-level challenges that span hardware and software boundaries. You possess strong software engineering fundamentals, deep expertise in Yocto and board support package development, and a proven ability to drive features from concept through silicon bring-up and into production.\nYou are comfortable across the full stack, from a device tree node to a released SDK, and collaborate effectively with architects and engineering teams across AMD.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nYocto Build Infrastructure: Design and maintain the Yocto and OpenEmbedded layers that enablenew AMD silicon - SoC family definitions, machine configurations, tunes, and layer architectureacross BSP and distro layers.\nKernel, Bootloader and Boot Image Integration: Integrate recipes for the Linux kernel, U-Boot,TF-A, and platform firmware, and build the boot artifact pipeline - device tree packaging, flash layout, signing, secure boot, and golden-image recovery.\nMulti-Domain Builds and SDKs: Define multiconfig builds that produce Linux, RTOS, firmware, andprogrammable logic artifacts together, and deliver the SDKs and toolchains teams develop against.\nAdaptive SoC and Programmable Logic: Integrate programmable logic into the software stack, including bitstream packaging, device tree overlays, and enabling PL interfaces from Linux.\nSilicon and Board Bring-Up: Participate in new silicon and board bring-up from first power-on,holding the integrated image and driving issues to root cause with hardware and firmware teams.\nCI, Release and Technical Leadership: Maintain QEMU-based virtual platforms and continuousintegration, deliver release artifacts and software bills of materials, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to architecture reviews.\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nDeep hands-on experience with the Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, and BitBake - authoring recipes, bbappends, and classes, building BSP and distro layers, SDK generation, and diagnosing complexbuild failures.\nStrong embedded Linux and board support package background: the Linux kernel from a platformintegration standpoint, device trees, kernel configuration and fragments, driver enablement, andbootloaders and early firmware such as U-Boot and TF-A.\nFamiliarity with BMC products and the platform management domain, and interfaces such as I2C,SPI, eSPI, and PECI.\nStrong programming skills in C and C++, and proficiency in Python or shell scripting for buildand automation work.\nExperience debugging complex system-level issues spanning build systems, operating systems, drivers, bootloaders, and firmware, and familiarity with Git and CI/CD workflows.\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nExperience with AMD Adaptive SoCs and FPGA technologies, including AMD Vivado™ or Vitis™ andhardware/software co-design.\nZephyr or another embedded RTOS, and RISC-V or other non-x86 architectures, including boardenablement and toolchain integration.\nInter-processor communication frameworks such as OpenAMP in heterogeneous multi-core systems.\nExperience with OpenBMC or a comparable BMC software stack and its integration into a Yoctodistribution.\nQEMU or comparable virtual platforms for pre-silicon development and continuous integration.\nExperience developing reference designs or proof-of-concept solutions, and release engineeringat scale including SBOM and CVE triage.\nContributions to the Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, or Linux open-source projects, with stronganalytical and communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership.\nACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:\nBachelor's degree + 8 years of experience or Master's degree + 6 years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.\nBenefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.\nAMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services.
