Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.\nThermal Mechanical Engineer\nTHE ROLE:\nWe are seeking an experienced Thermal Mechanical Engineer to support the development, characterization, and validation of server and computing platforms. You will perform hands-on thermal testing, CFD analysis, and system-level debug while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to optimize platform thermal performance.\nTHE PERSON:\nYou are a hands-on engineer with strong experience in thermal characterization, CFD modeling, lab testing, and hardware debug. You can independently investigate complex thermal and mechanical issues, analyze results, and drive technical tasks through resolution.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nPerform system-level thermal characterization, validation, and debug of server and computing platforms.\nSet up and utilize thermal/mechanical lab equipment and instrumentation, including thermocouples, anemometers, power measurement systems, environmental chambers, and Instron equipment.\nConduct CFD modeling and thermal analysis to support system design and optimization.\nDebug thermal and mechanical issues during platform bring-up, validation, and production.\nWork with platform hardware including motherboards, PCIe cards, power supplies, cabling, chassis, and cooling components.\nSupport mechanical design, prototyping, and test fixture development using 3D CAD tools.\nAnalyze test data, document findings, and recommend solutions to improve thermal performance.\nCollaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support platform development.\nPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:\nRelevant thermal/mechanical engineering experience, preferably with server, computing, or complex electronic systems.\nStrong knowledge of thermal engineering, heat transfer, airflow, and cooling solutions.\nExperience with CFD tools such as IcePak, Flotherm, or OpenFOAM.\nHands-on experience with thermal/mechanical lab instrumentation and test equipment.\nExperience with board- and platform-level hardware debug.\nFamiliarity with computer system architecture and hardware.\nExperience with SolidWorks; Fusion 360 is a plus.\nExperience with mechanical fabrication and prototype development is a plus.\nFamiliarity with Linux and Windows environments.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.\nAbility to independently drive technical assignments in a cross-functional environment.\nACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\nLocation:\nAustin, TX (MET Center)\nThis role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.\nBenefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.\nAMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services.
