Our commitments are underpinned by the belief that safety,collaborationand well-being are integral to success.\nSummary:\nServes as senior ASC staff member at a small field camp.Responsible for all aspects of the daily operation,maintenanceand management of the field campin accordance withthestandardoperatingprocedures outlined for the camp situation and the season plan as directed by the Field Manager and Project Manager. Adheres to program schedulesandworks directly with the Continental Field Supervisor to plan and execute the science plan. Responsibilities can include coordination of air support, supervision of ASC employees, cooking, communications, weather observation,skiwayconstruction, equipment operation,certification of hazardous cargo, cargo movement, and camp construction.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nConducts all operationsin accordance withthestandardoperatingprocedures specific to the camp location. Follows the plan as laid out by the Project Manager and Field Area Manager.\n\nDirects all aspects of the field science program in conjunction with the Continental Field Supervisor and Field Science Manager.\n\nSupervises camp staff and completes end of season evaluations on camp personnel in conjunction with the Continental Field Supervisor\n\nServes as safetycoordinator andensures that all safety related rules and regulations are adhered to by all hands. Communicates all safety incidents and near misses within the ASC safety protocols.\n\nEnsures the camp facilities and equipment aremaintainedand operated safely, that the camp is tidy, and that waste is retrograded throughout the season. Responsible for all hazardous cargo identification, labeling, and handling prior to shipping back to McMurdo Station.\n\nAssigns equipment support, materials, and science support priorities dailyin accordance withthe season plan\n\nMayassistthe Continental Field Supervisor with theselectionof camp staff during the off-season planning ifappropriate tothe campsituation, andmayparticipatein off-season planning ifappropriate tothe camp situation.\n\nPrepares cargo for movement to the field, completes load plans and cargo prioritization with Continental Field Supervisor and Fixed Wing or Helicopter coordinators prior to deployment to the field.\n\nCommunicatesprofessionally with their staff to relay information needed to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, structured training, quality standard procedures, and safety practices.\n\nMaintains detailed records of camp operations including fuel figures, camp population, flight information, weather observations, and emergency response incidents.\n\nCompletes end of season report according to SOP.\n\nImplements USAP's safety, environmental and health programs.\n\nSupports requiredsearch andrescue missions as directed by the Field Area Leadership and the Emergency Operations Center.\n\nInteracts with National Science Foundation and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.\n\nResponsible for implementing andmaintaininga safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nPerforms other duties asrequired.\n\nRequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nBachelor’s degree isrequired. Anadditionalfour years of relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.\n\nA minimum of four years combined experience in any of the following areas: weather reporting, equipment operation, cargo movement, fuel operations,skiwayconstruction, camp construction, expedition outfitting in polar climates orhigh altitudewinter settings, National Park service positions, outdoor education, experience working with helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, guiding services, and/or logistics.\n\nTwo of the four years’ experience must be in a supervisory or leadership role.\n\nCPR andWilderness First Responder Certification\n\nIncident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 certificationsrequired(training offered free through FEMA).\n\nExpectedSkills and Competencies:\nDemonstrated ability to work and supervise in remote and isolated environments\n\nGood verbal communication skills, computer literacy, andproblem solvingskills\n\nPreferred:\nTwo seasons of experience working in Arctic/Antarctica with direct experience working in a polar field camp is preferred.\n\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\n\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\n\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\n\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\n\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\n\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\n\nMustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.\n\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\n\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the siterequiresUS Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Mustbe able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization.
