We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.\nAbout the Opportunity\nThe Scientific Testing & Experimentation (ST&E) business at Amentum is recruiting for a Chemistry Consultant to be based in Birchwood, Warrington; the successful candidate would join a team of highly qualified scientists and engineers.\nThe Chemistry Consultant will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects associated with the nuclear industry, from support to new reactor designs such as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR), nuclear new build, existing generation, UK and International nuclear fusion, defence and nuclear regulatory support.\nOur chemists provide both practical and theoretical support to projects across many aspects of the nuclear life cycle in both the civil and defence sectors, in the UK and worldwide. Your role could include providing analytical chemistry and radiochemistry support to our clients from our laboratories, commissioning and operating novel rigs to inform solutions to chemistry challenges faced by our clients or providing desk-based chemistry consultancy and regulatory support to support our clients across the nuclear life cycle.\nWe apply modern science in new and different ways; and help to develop new, cleaner, safer, or more efficient means of producing and harnessing nuclear energy to help combat climate change.\nKey Responsibilities\nLeading small project teams to deliver chemistry-based projects\nWorking within a large multi-disciplinary project team of engineers and scientists to deliver projects\nAssisting in the development of innovative solutions to complex chemistry problems\nSupport to site-based customer activities\nSupport with the design, build, commissioning and operation of test rigs and facilities to answer chemistry related challenges\nVariety of lab-based sample analysis and interpretation of experimental data, compilation of high-quality technical reports and discussion of results with customers\nCarrying out desk-based consultancy and regulatory support to clients across the nuclear lifecycle\nSupport with the preparation of bid documentation\nHere’s What You’ll Need\nDegree in chemistry, chemical engineering or other similar scientific discipline, plus relevant chemistry experience\nA good degree of self-motivation and ability to undertake a number of tasks in parallel\nExcellent practical laboratory skills\nThe ability to work flexibly\nExcellent communications skills both written and verbal\nThe ability to be able to work as part of a team\nAttention to detail and questioning attitude\nCandidates must have/or be able to obtain CTC clearance as a minimum\nEither hold chartered status or have the ability to gain chartership (i.e., RSciTech/RSci/CChem/CSci) (Desirable)\nKnowledge of the chemistry, materials and engineering issues associated with the nuclear sector (Desirable)\nOur Culture\nOur values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual.
