Our commitments are underpinned by the belief that safety, collaboration and well-being are integral to success.\nSummary:\nSeasonal Contract position supporting the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Electricians will perform electrical maintenance or construction work, or any combination thereof, under the supervision of the Electrician Foreman, PM Coordinator, or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Tasking is based on employee’s prior work experience and ASC schedule requirements.\nPosition Responsibilities (not all inclusive):\nInstall, maintain, adjust, operate, test and repair branch circuits, power distribution wiring, electrical equipment, fixtures, lighting systems, and conduit in compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC)\nDiagnose, repair, and perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance on existing electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, and infrastructure\nInstall fixtures, wiring conduits, motors and other electrical equipment\nInspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components\nAccomplish tasking working from verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals, and applicable electrical specifications and codes\nWork standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment\nUse a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments\nAnalyze situations and make technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and electrical codes\nPerform ongoing risk and hazard assessment while executing tasking\nAppropriately use personnel protective equipment to include Arc Flash, electrical rated boots, gloves and non-conductive equipment\nTimely response to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours\nWork directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking\nUtilize the assistance of other station personnel to complete tasking, or assist other trades or departments with their tasking as appropriate\nAdvise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements\nMaintain accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved\nPrepare and document work plans, job hazard analysis, job safety analysis, code required forms, checklists, and internal procedural documents as required\nFollow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed, and create SOPs as directed \nPerform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weather\nProactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectively\nComply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements\nParticipate in Work Center Safety Program and ASC safety objectives\nBe a responsible, clean, and safe custodian of work areas, tools, equipment and spare parts\nPerform other duties as required\n\nRequired Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nHigh School diploma or equivalent\nA current Journeyman Electrician license, a current Master Electrician license, or equivalent Union\nmembership in good standing. A Journeyman license requiring less than 8,000 hours or of the\nResidential type shall not be considered.\nMinimum four years (8,000 Hours) documented experience in all phases of electrical work including\nrough-in, trim-out, wiring of electrical equipment and fixtures, conduit installation, and power distribution wiring including voltages up to 480\nExpected Skills and Competencies:\nThorough knowledge of the current National Electrical Code and the principles of electricity\nExperience in construction and/or maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities\nPossess the competencies, willingness, and ability to perform the duties of position\nSkilled in ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manual and manufacturer’s troubleshooting guides to accomplish tasking\nExperienced developing written work plans, job hazard analysis, and job safety analysis related to the work activities under a permit to work system\nThorough knowledge of the principles of electricity and the current National Electrical Code\nProficient in the use of electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices, and shop tools such as soldering units, meters, scopes, and probes\nHighly skilled at troubleshooting using appropriate testing devices\nExtremely knowledgeable regarding occupational hazards of the electrical trade and related safety precautions\nExpert in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment\nKnowledgeable concerning heating and air conditioning systems\nExperienced in maintenance of commercial, government, industrial, and/or institutional facilities\nPossess prior computer experience and be able and willing to learn and effectively utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications \nProficient in LOTO procedures for various tasking\nProficient in electrical safety procedures (NFPA 70E and OSHA)\nProficient in risk assessment and determination of PPE appropriate to specific tasking\nKnowledgeable of limits of PPE and proper maintenance of PPE\nFamiliar with fall protection and respirator use\nCompetent analyzing situations and making technical and safety decisions based on specifications and applicable codes and manufacturer guidelines\nSolid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems\nGood organizational and planning skills\nPreferred:\nTraining or certification on NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace\nExperience with installation, repair, and maintenance of heat trace on outdoor insulated piping\nExperience with installation, repair, and maintenance of permanently installed UPS systems\nExperience with installation, repair, and maintenance of motor controls and Variable Frequency Drives\nExperience with Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management System\nExperience with installation, repair, and maintenance of airfield runway lighting (McMurdo only)\nExperience working with voltages up to 4160 (McMurdo and South Pole)\nExperience with maintenance and installation of fire alarm systems and components (South Pole and Palmer)\nExperience with Microsoft Office Suite\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\nMust participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
