Controls and extinguishesaircraft, structures, and other fires to protect people,resourcesand the environment. Supervisefirefighters that drive andoperatesa range of fire fighting vehicles and equipment.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nResponsible formaintaininga safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nComplies withall Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements andgoals.Provide documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.\n\nImplements as assigned, the fire protection programs that conform to the United States Antarctic Program, including the operation of the ASC contract locations in Antarctica.\n\nResponsible for day-to-day operations or as directed by the Fire Captain. Conducts inspections and ensures the operations are conducted according to the Fire Department SOP's and NFPA guidelines.\n\nEnsures that emergency equipment under the control of the fire department is operational and in a state of readiness asdetermineby theCaptain.\n\nResponds to and supervises on emergencies as necessaryin accordance withthe CEMP.\n\nResponsible for entering reports and documenting calls for serviceduring the course ofhis/her shift.\n\nResponsible for daily entry of equipment, training data, and all department activities insoftware.\n\nPerforms and supervises training of Fire Department personnel and fire safety training for the community.\n\nInteracts with agency officials and the community in a professional and tactful manner.\n\nProvides supervision to firefighters andis responsible forpre-season and post-season written performance evaluations.\n\nHandles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.)in accordance withmanagement policy.\n\nTrains and orients employees on safety guidelines, quality assurancerequirementsand fire department goals.\n\nRequired to know and follow the SOP's and adhere to professional behavior both on duty and off duty.\n\nPerformsadditionalduties as assigned by theCaptain.\n\nRequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nHigh School diploma orGED\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Officer I.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State CertifiedFirefighterI &II.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Airport Fire Fighter.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level.\n\nCPR Certification.\n\nNationalIncident Management System (NIMS): ICS 100, 200, 700and800.\n\nFour yearspreviousfull timefirefighting experience, volunteer experience or paid on-call time.\n\nAt least twoof the fouryears’experience must be in asupervisoryrole or two years as a Firefighter with the Antarctic Fire Department.\n\nExpectedSkills and Competencies:\nPhysical activities to includelifting upto the safety regulation maximum, climbing,crawlingand dragging hose. Duties will be performed indoors and outdoors, and work may be performed in a variety of weather conditions including severe cold, wind, and limited visibility.\n\nPreferred:\nAssociate of Science degree in Fire Science.\n\nEMT-B orhigher.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Inspector I.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Instructor I.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Driver Operator Pumper / Mobile Water Supply.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Driver Operator ARFF.\n\nPreviousUSAP experience.\n\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\n\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\n\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\n\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\n\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\n\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\n\nMustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.\n\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\n\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access.
